GTX Titan X Performance?

The Titan type cards are meant for very high res gaming ergo the big frame buffers and according to Nvidia they couldn't make Titans fast enough to keep up with demand even after the 780 came out due to people who run multi monitor setups who demand a lot of memory.

In reality it was because of epeen. Lets be honest.

Would be funny if it was but the reality is quite different, I know plenty that bought Titans due to running triple 1440P setups because 3GB just couldn't cut it.

I'm still sticking by my statement. Most idiots with a couple of grand to blow on PCs from places like overclockers went for the Titan over the 780.
A single titan is arguably for epeen purposes only as it'll run out of grunt before memory. Two or more of them then you've maybe got an excuse. Otherwise you might as well get two 980s/2 290x 8gb.

Well most people that I know who got Titans did get 2 or more for multi monitor setups/high res.

People who got them for epeen were just idiots :p

What an absolute crock of steaming fucking bullshit. 1k for yet another 'Titan' product.
Fuck off nVidia.

'bleeding edge' gpu's used to be in the 300~500 area, now it's tripled that and then some... I get inflation and shit but 1k for this is complete bullshit, just like the last Titan, it's all about the 'name' and got fuck all to do with value.

I'll wait for the 780 to titan equivalent at half the price thanks very much.

Yeah F*** nVidia for implementing the same successful strategy as last time!

The top high end stuff in any market has never been touted as being good value for money though especially the niche stuff ^_^

True, but I was arguing about the fact that IS the Titan X THE higest end card from Nvidia in the 9xx series??? or in 4 months time do we get a 980ti that is right on par with the Titan X??? And then another release of a Titan Black X that makes the original Titan X as usefull as the First Titan released after the 780 and 780ti....???

12 gb of VRAM is humongous, and if I KNEW that it would be the top card from Nvidia during the 9xx series then even I would probably buy 2 for SLI and 4k gaming.

Or will they f+ck us over again - NVIDIA style?

In the future there will be graphics cards that are better than the best graphics cards available today FACT. If you can't live with that fact, don't buy a graphics card.

The place where it hurts the most is when your 'investment' depreciates and if you look at the last generation the 780 and 780Ti lost more value than the original Titan over their sales lifespan. Of course if you think a graphics card is in any way an investment then you need some financial advice. ^_^

TBF the 780 lost more Value over the year following that point than the Titan did ;)

Everything finds its place.

JR

That's not about losing value over time.

The 780 had practically the same performance at half the price.

Moreover it looks like that Titan X won't be any good in FP64 operations, since it may not have native fp64 support ( consumer maxwell stuff )

So 1000 $/€ for 30% more performance than a 980 in a gaming-only card doesn't sound good to me.

Thank you for figuring that one out Sherlock Holmes, great work!

But I see even with those detective skills then you are missing my point - I am saying that will Nvidia do another Titan move like last time? I would be willing to invest if the Titain X would be like the 780ti was to the 7xx series. It was the best (of Nvidia), even on par with the Titan Black. Of course it would be for high res gaming 4k etc so a SLI would be in mind.

Speaking of the original Titan, would YOU buy it now over a 780ti? And that is what I am saying, Nvidia charged 1000 Euros for a premium card - ok - u want the best you pay. But then out comes the 780ti and Titan Black. In the 6xx series the 690 was the BEST, you payed premium and got premium ( ok dual gpu..) Even so it was close to 1000 euros if I can remember right....

Not a problem. And again to re-iterate the same point it's basically a certainty that cheaper superior cards will come after the Titan X. Perhaps they will be called 980Ti's or Titan Blacks, idrc but they will come and if you can't live with that don't buy one.

Comparing a Titan to practically any other single card it will always look stupid. You have to consider the vram will only be useful with multiple cards at high resolutions. Look at 4x Titans vs. 4x 780's at 4k and the advantages will become obvious. I wouldn't ever buy a single Titan and at this moment in time 290X's would be my preference but it all depends on the nature of the rig. Titan's and the Titan X have their place, it doesn't necessarily represent good value, but it doesn't have to.

So who is brave enough to say they are getting a Titan X ?

Hoping to get 2 of them as long as the price isn't to stupid, bonus time this month but I need to get some Euro's as well for my holiday in June.

Based of the early results looking to have a 30% improvement over a 980, then this card in sli will be worthwhile to upgrade to from a 780Ti sli setup especially for 4K gaming.

I also need a new motherboard as my current one won't let me overclock as the bios is locked down and I have loaded different bios's on it and none of them will unlock the cpu multiplier.

I am but only if it's the full GM200 and not cut down i.e missing 400 CUDA cores like the difference between the Titan and Titan Black.

I thought you said you weren't going to get another Nvidia card over their handling of the whole GTX 970 thing?
