I just built a computer for/with a friend, I got a Galax 970 gtx OC card for the build.

When he was here first thing i did was put heaven on to compare it to my 780 running simultaneously. It was quiet fans span fine infact the whole system was quieter than mine :)

But once he got it home, windows had an update he did that and it crashed, he restored to known working point and then installed sims did the update and now its whining but only when his clicking

I have not got the foggiest what the problem is but its only making the noise in games not benchmarks.

Build is :
NZXT H440
Intel Devils canyon 4690K (i beleive)
8 Gb of corsair Vengeance RAM @ 2133
Samsung Evo 120 gb ssd
Barracuda 1tb hdd for games
RM650 corsair PSU
Galax 970 geforce OC 4gb GPU

with windows 7 prof 64bit

Hope we can solve this.
Ta guys

I had this when I had the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 mobo and the GTX750Ti it was power interference, it would whine when I moved the mouse or clicked, turned out that once the GPU was working with its drivers installed and applying any load it would interfere with the onboard audio. But it didn't do it without the drivers, there's a lot to be said for quality audio chipsets and shielding.

So how can i remedy it?
Cheers for the quick reply its an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Z97
Forgot that in the OP
Shall i get him to uninstall the audio driver or check msi for a bios update, just hard to do a fix over the phone sometimes, im guessing with the drivers being an issue this could also be bugging up is internet connection.

I'm doubting my suggestion now as the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel Z97 has a quality audio set up even with a separated circuit..

Yeah i hope its not his GPU, his quite fond of his machine.
i cant think why his having an issue that sounds like something else.
I cant get the pc to mine to see if its PSU coil whine or something else.
All i can think of is a fresh install of windows.
Fresh drivers and see if that pans out better.

But if its a hardware issue i need to find out which bit. spent ages making that case nice and neat between the two of us lol :(

Agreed a fresh install and see if you can replicate the issue, then it's out with a kitchen roll tube to listen for the noise.

just suggested this to him, Its in his hands now.
Fingers crossed.
Id not even connected the PSU for corsair link.
But also it left here working. Think i need to get my hands on it and really stress it and see whats wrong, cos its almost impossible to trouble shoot away from it :(

Cos i was really impressed with its performance too ... the fact less money was spent on it and it out performs mine in pretty much everything but rendering.

Yes, limiting the FPS does the trick. My 970 was rendering 1000 FPS and I had a whine also, limited it to 60 and the noise is gone.
