GTX whine 970

my 970 is extremely whiney,
so i have swapped PSU's (twice) and that didn't help,
overclocked still no help just changed the pitch,
put V-SYNC on (reluctantly) which got rid of some but not enough.
I got the Galax EXOC Infinity black which states "Inductors placed in higher quality containers and glued to PCB to reduce coil whine"
other thing is 1 fan seems to spin more than the other meaning it is louder than i expected.
any other advice? think im going to have to send it back :(

Tom did you have any of these issues with the black edition you reviewed?

My friend had coil whine from a galax, and a few people have had the same issue.

Also they dont have to refund you for coil whine.

I would try though to unplug ya PSU inputs for the GPU and make sure they go back in and go in well after checking his pc i found on the 2nd card he did not plug them in properly. The clip did not come down due to contacting the BP or the pcb.

only arrived yesterday so i could send it back as a change of mind if they are funny about it. and the fan thing is annoying.

will try the clips now though

*they are definitely in both ends*

If it's an OCUK Infinity edition then they guarantee them to be coil whine free when used with a quality PSU under normal conditions. Return it to them, if they give you hassle bring it up politely on their forums and i'm sure they will deal with it.

coil whine is unfortunate issue with maxwell, ive had 6 different 970's all had whine, ive used 2 different high efficiency psu's and swapped motherboards and finally after being refused a refund by ebuyer decided to live with it and hope over time they would queit down

My Strix 970 has coil whine too, but that's usually accompanied by game audio so I ain't that fussed - though I'd rather it didn't do it...

A friend of mine bought the Windforce version of the 970, it coilwhined and returned it to the retailer (I think either Inet or Komplett) and got the 970STRIX, the coilwhine is worse than the Windforce version.....

sorry have been stuck at work.
have been given an RMA so gonna post it off tomorrow :(
gonna be a week or 2 with no GPU :(
will keep you all informed

sorry to hear that dude, my GTX 970 is very well behaves, no whine at all. It is a common problem with GTX 970s though, I guess I am lucky.

I have a 970 and the only time I've noticed coil whine is when I start playing Crysis. The FPS shoots up to 4-5000 and I hear the whine. In game I haven't noticed it. Maybe I'm deaf, LOL.

I have to say i was shocked. had coil whine on my 560ti but no where near the levels on this thing. its a really low humming most of the time but its really audible. if i hadn't snapped my phone i'd try and record it

BTW why did my thread name get changed? thought i was quite clever changing the 9 to whine lol

For those who has the ASUS 970 Strix OC version, have you noticed any coul whine and when does it appear, ie when gaming or?...

And how come an RMA won't be legit most of the time?...

Although i dont have a Strix mine only whines when it is gaming or benching. if you turn on V-sync or lock the frame rate it reduces the noise if it is lowering the load.

Coil whine isn't recognized as a fault, every electrical component can produce a coil whine that can be heard, I've heard of T.Vs and Stereos whining. A manufacturer can claim it is your PSU that is causing it as every PSU has a different effect on the GPU even 2 of the same model.

Strix 980 here and awful coilwhine also, it's very game dependent tho. Diablo3 is so far the worst, if it's not locked to 60fps my ears start to bleed.

This is what happens when nvidia dont have a reference design and let the vendors make their own cards without any kind of guidance. Ive not seen so many complaints about in coil whine in a card in a long time

Shadows of Mordor is my worst culprit. started to get black screen flickering now also, but this is probably a driver issue. sort of starting to regret upgrading now :(

I've had black screen flickering, it doesn't happen very often but my screen will just go black for a few seconds and then come back on but with no driver error and no log in event viewer it's strange.
