GTX 970 3,5GB + 0,5GB with 56 ROP and less cache than advertised.

If a bunch of 970s show up cheap on OCUK's B-grade page I might upgrade if I'm honest... SLI 970s would be great. Then again, I'd be risking even more Coil whine.

Haha I'm hoping the same. Fingers crossed the price falls so I can snap up 2 of them. Ok I have 780s in SLI but considering power cost (yes I am one of the few that take power consumption into consideration) I would be happy to get these cheap.

Just phoned Ebuyer, they say they are waiting for an official statement from Nvidia, which will be given within 48 hours.

I should know what is happening soon enough.

fingers crossed MSI offer the same service as EVGA, I think they might as every experience I have had with MSI has been very good

Two of these would make me a happy chappy B)

Inno3D, KFA2, Galax and OCUK own brand 970s also being accepted for refunds

I feel sorry for OCUK and other retailers, they are going to lose a lot of money because of this.

There will be a lot of B grade 970s for sale soon though, I might grab another one for SLI :D

I'm hoping I can return my cards direct to msi as I've got a pair of EK 970 gaming waterblocks and backplates attached to mine and I think ebuyer may be funny about taking them back.

It will be a pain to do all this and I will lose money on the £260 I spent on the pair of EK blocks and backplates I bought in December but it will be worth it in the end if I can grab a pair of 980's instead

It is official, I am now back on the red team. Just got a great deal on an MSI R9 290X. Now I just need to finish this return on the GTX 970.

The Sale of Goods act is on my side, I'll get the return regardless of what Nvidia say to Ebuyer.

I would wait and see what NV can fix with their driver.

As said before in the thread. No amount of software will fix it. It is a physical hardware problem. The other 512MB of vram is acting as a cache and not part of the actual GDDR5 vram like the rest.

The fact of the matter is that nvidia sold us a lie. The differences may be minor to non existent in some games but in the dying light as soon as l went over 3.5GB I had shuttering and sudden frame drops from 60fps to 15-24. When I dropped the textures down a setting my frame rate was consistent and had no shuttering and my frame usage was around 3GB.

Nvidia think they can just brush this under the carpet but I hope they pay dearly for it. This has harmed their reputation immeasurably in my eyes. Lying about specifications like this is terrible and a driver fix will not fix it, this is a hardware issue.

Since my product was not as described and given the high price of the purchase I am/will be asking to be refunded. Nvidia must respond to this officially and apologise.

Nvidia's closed hardware ecosystem and even game works are things I can live with but these flat out lies are things I cannot abide. I consider honesty to be a very important trait, and I don't know if I can trust them with any personal hardware purchases in the near future.

let me know how you get on with your return as I will be next in line although Ive still got my fingers crossed that MSI might offer a step up option to the 980

I don't think NVidia lied about the specs.

What is a little bit more serious is I think they made a genuine mistake and no one spotted it, this at best could be described as incompetent.

Still wonder what is going to happen in Australia tho

Australian Consumer law says that if the product must 'match descriptions made by the salesperson, on packaging and labels, and in promotions or advertising'

If there's a minor problem the seller can choose to remedy it with a replacement (not applicable here really), repair (can't be done) or refund and compensation for loss.

IF the problem is major (ACCC website indicates amongst other items "is significantly different from the sample or description") you are guaranteed a refund.

Not sure whether they would see this as 'significantly different' or a minor packaging/printing error. That would be one to argue. The number of ROPS are wrong, the RAM is technically still 4GB although not utilised as you would have expected.

Check out the ACCC website or consumer affairs in your state/territory.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that a multi million/billion dollar R&D department wouldn't overlook a card specs as actually having less ROP's, Not a full 4GB chunk of memory as oppose to 3.5 and .5 unless they are extremely incompetent which I can't see, End result, False advertising.
