Ok i brought a gainward gtx 470 today and replaced my gts 250 as a birthday present to myself now when i power on the pc is definitely booting into Windows 7 desktop but i get no display whatsoever.

im using an 800watt power supply all the fans on my gpu are spinning but no matter if i go from the mini hdmi on card to hdmi on monitor or any of the 2 DVI ports ive even tried dvi to vga all to no avail.

I upgraded my motherboard to the latest bios which is an Asus M2N4 SLI by the by ive spent 10 hours on this now and am now stumped.

If i pop my gts 250 in it displays fine help :-(

Failed card IMO. I've had that happen right out of the box. Not sure about Gainward, but the same thing happened one of my 2 EVGA GTX 280's. The nice thing there was that i had another card so i could trouble shoot. The only other time I've ever seen that was when someone had changed the switch on my very old PSU from 180 to 220 or whatever that old option was. That took my a long time to figure out. But if your old card works still and this new one doesn't I would RMA that bad boy

RMA it mate and get ur money back and pick up a gtx460 and overclock it to 470 levels :)

or better buy 2 gtx460's for some sli action

Thanks for the prompt replies fellas fortunately i live 5 mins away from the shop i brought this from,m only worry is that what if its a mobo incompatability?

it shouldnt be mate its pci-e so it should work, see about the gtx460's mate they look like there going to be epic cards i have 2 of them lined up :)

With the gtx 460 would u recommend 1024mb or the 768mb version im sure i read somewhere the 768mb runs faster because of the type of memory used.

if you buy 2 for sli i dont really think it would make much difference and for the extra £80 price tag for 2 1gb model i think maybe thats a bit 2 much ontop

Then its deffo a card problem, as long as the cable is ok and you have it connected to the power properly then it does sound like the GPU is faulty :(

Ill take it back to the shop now ive just got to decide if im going to go for 2 X 460 or another 470 im gaming at 1280X720 on a 3D projector could do with some more oomph for games like Mafia 2 and metro 2033 , and my gts 250 chokes on 3D Blu Ray Iso playback. Will let you all know outcome anyway.

The differences between the 768 and 1gb versions are apparently whopping. Not just a small one, but a big big one. However, that is going on one card. With SLI you can get the job done for about £300.

Ignore the smaller memory bandwidth, on my 5770s in Crossfire they just whoop all kinds of backside.

Avoid the blower designs that are out there. They're noisy as heck. My 3870x2 has a blower and to keep it at 5 series temps I have to live with a dustbuster in my room. However, that I can live with as I was amazed by just how quick it is. Fallout 3 won't crank to the same levels as my Crossfired 5770s but it lives on ultra with only a couple of things wound back to save VATS from crawling.

SLI 460 is the in thing ATM if you can't bear to go ATI and want to fold or can't live without the CUDA cores. IMO everything from the 4 series range should be binned and they should go more for pushing SLI.

Do let us know how you get on though. The chances of me ever going back to Nvidia after my woeful experiences over the past two years are incredibly slim, but I am very interested in seeing just how much butt a pair of 460s can kick.

Also... That 470 not working was an act of god. Seriously, they're over priced over heated poo. You have been saved from a big mistake mate. The cooling assembly on them couldn't even keep a 2 series in check, let alone a Fermi.

Ok the 470 was indeed broke took it back got a credit note added another £100 (dont tell the mrs)and got 2 X gtx 460 1gig palit brand cards.

Now ive realised i may not have enough juice ive a 700W OCZ Psu will let u know how it all goes.

Hi just had a look at the box and they are the Sonic Platinum editions let me just do the math 284 + 98 is 382 so divided by 2 would be £191 roughly each .

Damn i was trying not to think too much about the price :-)

I should just clarify that i actuaaly used to game heavy on PC but since it all became console ports just found it easier to game on an xbox 360.Anyways i wanted a pc for 3D vision on my projector and really enjoyed playing batman arkham asylum in 3d but found some of the newer games were struggling,I really didnt want to spend heaps of cash on a gpu but my gts 250 choking on 3D blu ray was the straw that broke the camels back.

Its also my Bday on Friday so a good excuse to spend on myself.I actually have Ati5770 but that runs my main HTPC i find the lack of bitstreaming on the Nvidia cards very strange but hey.

Yeah totally agree with Steps. 700w should be more than enough to run a couple of wee cool customers like the 460.

As for the price? Don't sweat it man. Honestly they really are fantastic cards and worth every penny. So you paid £191 each? How much was the 465 again? Oh yeah, £250+ and was a load of dog doo :D

You've overpaid by a few bob by going local but today's return of the 470 pays testament to why it's sometimes a good idea to go local.

Now get those pigs strapped, start a thread and bang out some benchies :D

Oh, and pics or it didn't happen :D (sorry, got that saying from an old friend and it makes me smile every time I say it).

actually mate u got a good deal on them prob be that price from ebuyer and about £10 cheaper from scan do thats good! without having to wait on delivery

and they are the ones with the custom pcb and are meant to overclock pretty damn great :)
