up from nvidia that we can buy a better performing card for so much less? And really are the dx 10 compatable 8600's going to be able to run dx10 at a decent rate?!

I wonder the same thing.

But I worry about the 8800 too, a good example of a chip failing to run a new DX is the FX series.

They couldn't run DX 9 well.

I know i'm now getting a little off subject but is this a decent mobo?

Is there any better Nvidia boards for the same sort of price? This is one thing i'm totally oblivious to now.. the chipsets on boards.

Depending on the chipset of the board (ATI / Nvidia) i'm guessing it would be best to buy a gfx card of the same brand? A crossfire gfx card wouldn't work on a sli board and vise versa i'm thinking. That wouldn't bother me as i'm not gonna go down the sli or crossfire route. Is there any other advantages of matching the mobo and gfx card?

No that mobo sucks ass

If your getting a new CPU/RAM and mobo your best off with Intel Core2Duo right now :)

More expensive aren't they? I've read that the high end Athlon X2's (5500's) can match the Core2Duo and cost less?

Did I read pure bull?

These have recently dropped in price e6600

Also, i just decided to sell my 7900gto as i play 1920x1600 on the 24" dell and its starting to not be smooth at max setings...

I also have my aw9d max mobo lying around in perfect condition... tbh i prefer it to the commando... Hmmm, i'm up for selling one of them (max/commando) if you are interested?

Someone give me an idea on fair prices for the commando (inc free grease from my pelt lol - extra cooling on this one too), the max (as new) and the 7900gto - all are boxed in perfect working condition

I got lost a bit reading this convo but i think you are along the lines of looking for an nvidia 7900GS, there is one going for about £80.00-82.00ex VAT, the specs are 256m/256bit 450/660 there are at least six up for grabs and the price might actually be lower than that...:D
