GPU 2 Overheating at Idle

For those of you who know my previous PC / 590 issues... I've been playing several GPU intensive games with no crashing whatsoever.

Then I plugged in my G13, played for a few minutes and crashed.

No video adapter error like before, but maybe it was connected somehow? I don't know.

Then my computer shut down again while using the G13... but now my GTX 590 is idling WAY too hot.

GPU 1 idle is 38, used to be 34. Max load is 50, used to be 45.

GPU 2 idle is 50, used to be 34. Max load is 56, used to be 50.

What happened and why is this happening? It's strange that the difference between idle and load is so small... so this is strange to me.

I would say re-seat the heatspreader onto your graphics card with new thermal paste. Just don't put to much. I've read alot of Graphics card partners are putting huge amounts of thermal paste on their graphics cards and temps can be fine for a while and suffer later or they can just SUCK like mine did. it could of also come loose.

GPU 1 temps will most likely only be rising due to GPU 2.

I'm not very good with reseating GPU components. In fact, I've never taken a GPU apart.

Would it be better to ship it back to EVGA? It is lifetime warranty on this card.

EVGA's warranty covers removing the cooler from the card so you are covered if anything goes wrong. It's not much different to changing the paste on your CPU though, you should be able to do it no probs :D

^what he said.
Screws might be a bit loose.
Cooler might bend the card and therefore lose the full contact with gpu -> higher temps.

Are you using Dual Monitors ?? This will lock the cards in 3d mode and stop them idling.... I had the same probs with my 480....

The multiscreen idle bug got fixed in the later bios's .... See if you can find a newer bios version for your card,, or flash a bios from a different manufacturer.... I got the latest evga bios on my POV 480 and idles fine now with multi monitors...
