good quality speakers??

Because the in-shop demo's are *never* set up how they would be at home. My local independent Hi-Fi/TV guy used to dedicate a room where he would set up furniture and a proper living room environment etc to show stuff off properly. And would let you tweak it how you like and get an honest opinion.

PC World / Maplin etc are crooks and will sell you either the cheapest piece of shit in the store which has been setup to sound 'good' (impossible to gauge how good something sounds in a large, open-plan store full of chattering people, tv's etc) OR will up-sell you to their highest profit margin item in the shop at the time, they're trained to do it. The staff have little/no knowledge of actual hardware, I couldn't even buy Windows 7 (or Microsoft 7 as the cashier called it) from my local PC World recently... completely laughable.

Ultimately they are a sales company, it's part of Dixons and only there to get profit from you and not help / satisfy your needs.

Microsoft 7. lols

Honestly I did the usual shop-floor search, and just went to the counter and asked if they sell Windows 7.

She picked up the phone to what I assume was the people in the back and this is the conversation.

"Hi, do we sell Microsoft seven"
*short pause, and you can tell the poor guy at the other end just laughed*
*snort/cough noise* "oh yeah (chav voice) yes, windows 7"

*longer pause*
"err, no it doesn't look like we do"

I ask "What about windows 8?"

her: "we have home and student edition"
me: "Erm, I think that's office, I want the operating system"
her: "oh right.. no I don't think we do that"

I just walked off..

On to Maplins...

me: Do you have Windows 8 Pro ?

assistant: There isn't a pro version?

me: There is, it's like windows 7 had about 4 versions, but there is a pro version of windows 8

second assistant: do you mean like windows 8.1 ? that's just been released?

me: no I mean the "Pro" version of either 8.1 or 8, do you sell that

first assistant: there isn't a pro version, let me check the website
(he literally opens google on the display pc and searches for it, and up it comes), proceeds to find the pro version description and kinda just looks blankly....

After 20 minutes debating whether or not the software shown on M$'s site is actually a real-thing or not, I bought a regular 64Bit 8.1 oem copy

what a farce :P

Anyway, let's rerail this lol
