Globalfoundries halts 7nm developments - Refocuses on high-growth markets

not good, that is not good.

i see a future of only samsung and TSMC producing cutting edge chips.

who knows what happens at intel.

not good, that is not good.

Not a good trend, the move to FinFET took out IBM and now the move to 7nm has taken out Globalfoundries. At least Globalfoundries will still produce tech, somebody needs to focus on the smaller companies.

What will happen with the next node jump. We can't really afford to lose any of the three remaining players, TSMC Samsung and Intel, not that Intel works with many 3rd parties.

no good outlook for 5 or 3nm. i doubt it will become much easier (cheaper) going smaller. ;)

maybe they should think about other technologies, materials.
they are expensive right now sure. but the problems with silicon will not go away.

and i do not speak only about .. cought... " graphene" the material that is said can do everything but seems to go nowhere in reality. well that is maybe a bit unfair but for the hype around it, it sure has not taken over.

InGaAs, carbon maybe?
