G. Skill vs Corsair

Recently, I have been looking for some high end ram. Corsair ram is known to be great, but I wanted to consider other brands, such a G. Skill. One thing I noticed was that Corsair Dominator platinum is far more expensive than G.Skill TridentX ram. Does this indicate a huge difference in quality and performance between the two? I always thought that G. Skill made some of the best ram, however it is so cheap! Please give your opinion on what is better ram, and if G. Skill is really as good as they are claimed to be.
Thanks in advance

I'd always go Corsair.

And it's as TTL says. Vengeance Pro is the good stuff, Dominator Platinums pretty much just carry a premium for the aesthetics.

So if I understand correctly, Dominator ram offers no real improvement over vengeance ram?
Also, can I have your opinions on G.Skill ram?

RAM is ego bud. You can go for 2133 over 1600, you can go for lower timings, but at the end of the day you aren't going to see any definitive improvement unless you are running very memory-sensitive applications (basically, gaming isn't of them).

Basically, pick a brand you like with a good reputation, a good set of "high-end" RAM (You aren't going to go wrong with G.Skill, Corsair, Mushkin etc) and pick it based on aesthetics, because in the real world you won't notice the difference.

RAM is RAM, don't really matter which you go with. Just stay away from the value RAM stuff.

Corsair did make some very high end Dominator Platinum memory (the 2400mhz cas 9 sticks) but these are no longer available. As to the rest of the Dominator Platinum range it is not worth going near unless you are after looks.

For gaming memory speed does not make a lot of difference most of the time. I have even found that downclocking 2400mhz ram to run @1600mhz has sometimes produced higher fps with better mins and maxs.

Purely for gaming high speed memory is not needed.

+1

I loved Corsairs advert about a month ago saying "Buy our high speed ram and get up to 10 more frames in BF4" There was a big pretty graph to go along with it aswell.
Needless to say they got slated for it and then reduced that number to 6 and still got slated lol

You'd need one HELL of a disposable income to think of getting Dom Plats that high end xD

@2400mhz 9-11-11-25 I get slightly worse performance in games than I do @1600mhz 9-11-11-25. I think this is where the CPU is doing needless work driving the memory @2400mhz which in turn is no use for gaming.

These memory sticks are more for benching than gaming, on the futuremark benches they really shine but that is not a lot of use in games.

Corsair don't seem to stock the above Cas 9 2400mhz memory anymore, when I got mine they were reasonably priced but since then memory prices have gone through the roof.

To be fair, if it was a machine where asthetics were not an issue, I wouldnt be worried about using "value ram". Have used it in other machines, with no issues.
