Hi all,

This is just a quick thread to let you all know about the latest on the AMD FX-9590.

Price Point:

The AMD FX-9590 in the UK can now be picked up for around £234.00

Packaging:

AMD have become so concerned with the chip's 220W TDP that they have begun shipping FX-9590's with an AMD branded Liquid-Cooler in the US. I would expect that to begin to filter down to EU bound chips soon enough.

Thanks,

Even with the recent price reductions of this cpu it doesn't compete with other offerings at the same price point.

I did see this image not too long ago. SOURCE

it shows the fx-9590 beating intel sandy-bridge E cpus

Despite this, this cpu is not a good buy, a intel k-series i5 or i7 quad core would be much better performance wise (in most cases), thermally and power consumption.

OP seem legit and is obviously not marketing AMD products :D

No one with a brain would ever buy the 9590.

You are correct, stock for stock the FX-9590 will beat an LGA2011 (Just) sadly for AMD once LGA2011 CPU's get overclocked into the 4+ GHz zone they blow the FX-9590 away. But then again I guess it it not intended to go up against i7's (especially not LGA2011) as we all know the FX range currently falls in between i5's and i7's (In some cases) So with that in mind I guess it is really aimed at existing FX users who want to upgrade and do not want (know how) to over clock.

LOL, marketing indeed :)

No, I just wanted to let people know that it's price has come down by some 75% (A bit sick of people bashing the product based on massively outdated information, especially since they all seem so desperate to bash it) and to let people know that it's "affordability" will get better due to the included Liquid-Cooler, which will definitely be rated for the CPU.

I agree to a point, if you can afford better then absolutely, why buy the FX-9590? However as I said earlier today, I think we are missing labeling the products actual target market.

Thanks,

Well I personally struggle to see why people would buy it, I'd rather get an 8350 and a liquid cooler and get the clock speeds myself. The same would go for PC vendors . Also, didn't the 8150 come with a liquid cooler at one point?

You are correct, the FX-8150 did indeed come with a AMD branded liquid-cooler.

As would I, however some people would not, so AMD will have a market right there, even if it is a small one.

Thanks,

I've always been a AMD-oholic but I seriously believe that AMD should have drop this "Heat exchanger" from their line up it was just simply a pointless exercise, it was heavily binned in production (not binned enough IMO) and would only be useful to silver surfers who didn't get their winter fuel allowance.

To be fair I think this product was originally targeted at AMD Enthusiasts (Extreme Builds) who would have a custom water loop capable of handling the TDP of 220W. It has obviously since moved onto newer pastures.

What the 'eck were AMD thinking? I'm pretty sure 90% of all AMD based builds are done on a budget of some description so the market for this chip is again, tiny. As someone who is a big AMD fan I still struggle to see who'd buy it over an 8350, I'd be tempted to stick an 8350 in a custom loop if I got it to 5.0 GHZ. I think they'd have made more money from the chips if they kept them as 8350s but made an overclock edition, so if you wanted a good OCing chip you could pay a slight premium for a guarantee that you could get the magical 5Ghz.

You have answered your own question at the end ^_^

Just another update on cooling solutions for the FX-9590 and FX-9370 CPU's.

Cooler Master have released a new air cooler called the "Cooler Master V8 GTS" It has a maximum TDP of 250W, which is massive coming from a Air Cooling Solution. (It is currently the only Air Cooler I know of that can easily cool the two AMD FX-9XXX series CPU's)

Thanks,

That premium being oooh... £40 max, not £100. Paying alot of money for the 9590 is still silly. This is coming from someone who likes AMD. If it was an extra 30 or 40 that'd be fine as it still keeps it level (just) with it's competitor chips from intel. That is how AMD sell products normally, by undercutting the similar performing (in games atleast) chips from intel.

Thanks,

Err big statement to make there. You on CM's payroll as well as AMD's?

Looking at reviews, it doesn't perform any better than the Phanteks, so it's safe to assume the D14 and Silver Arrow would beat it, or at least be up there with it.

I agree, it should definitely be priced at £200.00 or less as the LGA2011 i7-4820K comes in at around £242.00 and lets face it LGA2011 is a beast...

I am kind of hoping AMD will not withdrawn from the Enthusiast market segment and actually create a new CPU and chipset that can at least keep up with Intel's offerings. With luck the console gamble will pay off and refill their coffers.

Lol, I wish. It may be easier to bank roll my third LGA2011 build then...

To be fair most cooler reviews I have seen have it going up against Liquid Coolers and then a few air coolers at the back of the pack. What we really need is a comprehensive performance list with every CPU cooler currently available on it. As each reviewer uses different CPU's and mainboards alongside different rivals etc, but despite that range of comparison is actually rather small.

Its come down by 75% because its just a higher clocked 8350, and I would be incredibly pissed off if I had bought one at the launch price. Its plain and simple AMD taking advantage / full on taking the piss out of its customers.

There is more bad things about this than good. Power hungry and hot are the nicer ones.

This should be given a very wide berth.
