FX 6 core vs 8 core

So im looking to be building a budget gaming system and i was wondering if there really is any noticable difference between the 6 and 8 core. From what i understand the basic architecture per core is exactly the same just with a two core difference, and since most games don't utilize 6 or even 8 cores yet, is it even worth it to get the 8 core if you're only gaming? could you compare it to gaming on an i5 vs. an i7 w/ HT?

I am not trying to start an intel vs AMD war here so please just keep it to the question lads :)

Thanks in advance

You won't see much difference in gaming between the 6 or 8Core FX series the only time your going to notice any performance drop between the two would be in rendering, SMP folding or any other really CPU intensive programs.

Budget in what you can afford I'd say, the 6300 or the 8350 both good IMO and future proof for gaming for now at least.

The 8 core variants are quite a bit faster than 6 core variants especially when you start comparing them to Intel. 8350 is able to keep up with an i5 in most games(some games just hate AMD cpus) but in newer games such as BF4, the 8350 can just edge out the 4 core I5 and slightly catch up to an i7.

IMo for AMD its either 8 core or A10 APU or nothing really. Everything else just is not up to snuff.
