I pretty much disagree with this, particularly in view to new-comers, or infrequent visitors perception of their visits.
Throw out some wild examples, as I have to go test some equipment in a min:
Also within the realms of trading. I can see the bias of a largely repped user with 1000s of posts vS a 25/50 post person with no reps - for sure they 'could' and 'should' be viewed on an equal level - but if both of them are selling a monitor for £200, who would u "feel" more inclined to deal with ? (I know there are safety matters involved with even being able to post a sale thread, but even the best of systems can be perceived to be at-fault in some fashion) Even so, banktransfer to some1 u never hear of a sum of £200, the honest amoungst us would atleast thing 2/3/4/5 times about it. If the choice was their they'd go with the repp'age.
In addition, it's a good system of award/reward for some of the things 100/1000s of the members have been doing in terms of site/OC3D promotion and putting that little extra to the site as a whole. Benching, detailing rig builds, folding, being bothered to help people (no matter how small or big the issue may be), photos of new gear for the heck of it, bringing news that they're not in anyway duty bound to do, guides - there are many other things also.
Ok lots do the things members will do regardless of whether there's reward or not, it isn't even in their minds at the time - but the system in that sense is not there for them, it's in place for the other members to thank the said member in a form of appreciation. This being the way the rep system isn't there for the single member, it's there for the other 99.9% of the members to use as a reward tool.
