Find Me A Beast

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a new GPU for my new gaming rig, money isn't an option but is at the same time i.e I'm 21 and my money is my own but I can't afford to buy Quad SLi GTX Titans haha.

My new rig so far is a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M5 and being delivered today is a Intel Core i5 4670K. I'm building my rig in stages to spread the cost and to do some research over a period of a week or two before buying the next component. So I think my next component is going to be the GPU. Which then means my most expensive components are bought and installed in my Obsidian 550D.

I was thinking GTX Titan, I think £800 is fairly reasonable because it's only £260 dearer than a GTX 780. But am I wasting my time, what resolution is 6GB VRAM for? At the moment I'm going to hook this up to my TV, I just bought the new Panasonic 47" 3D SMART being advertised on TV atm which if I hook up through HDMI will only run (I say only) at 1080p right?

What would two GTX 780's compare like to one GTX Titan?

Any ideas?

look at the reviews, 780's dont come far of the titan, and for a single display at 1080p you should just get the 780, even the 770 if you want the latest gen of cards. the rams more for multiple displays
i have my 780 arriving today but im uising a 560ti, and im getting reasonable fps even at 3d.
with the 3d id just check what kind of 3d it runs. stereoscopic or what ever else

The other thing that concerns me though is in a few years, how will they both handle current games. Would the Titan still be capable where as the 780 wouldn't?

I'd just rather spend the money now and enjoy it for as long as possible. Thankyou for mentioning 3D also, it reminded me of another question...

To run your gaming rig in 3D, do you need the 3D Vision kit, or can I just press 3D on my remote like I would the PS3, and it kicks the 3D capability of the GPU in, pop the passive glasses on and away we go?

P.S. Oooo, thats a nice new toy the delivery man is bringing you today!

with nvidia you just enable it to run in any full screen app, if im running a blu ray it does it its self.

And if your desperate to spend money look up the EVGA super overclocks they are good looking cards and get maybe 2 780's

but i still think for just 1 display at 1080p you only need one, check to see if your tv can handle 1440p, and what is its refresh rate?

and yes i just realised its active or passive. nvidia is active and your tv will most likely be passive.

Personally I'd pickup two 780's over a titan.

The cost difference between the two isn't worthit, where as 2 780's would rock just about anything for a good couple of years.

I'm not desperate to spend money lol but if I'm going to build a gaming rid that can handle all games maxed out, I' am willing to spend the money, otherwise I may as well get an Xbox One or PS4, but I want BF4 with all the AA and AF in the world! :)

My TV is passive yeah, I'll have a look on the website now which should show it's specs for resolutions.

Only mentions 1080p.

if an out dated card like my 560ti can run bf3 on max giving me 30-40 fps a single 780 will do fine but if you wanted to get 2

and from what ive read before nvidia wont support most passive if any monitors

Also why you planning on using a tv, is this machine also being used as a media machine?

I suppose I should get a 780 then. Is there any specific model that outperforms all the other 780s from its stock OC, or features?

Just so you know, my last gaming rig was a Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz, 3GB Corsair 800MHz RAM, and a HD4870, so it's been a while since I have been into gaming PC's so I really don't know much about the hardware out there atm.

It's ok the standard cards still are very impressive and the OC cards as far as im aware are just factory tuned in a sense, but with things like evga precision and the new OC features of GPU 2.0 uses just temps to OC the card, around the temp you decide.
and for 3d in gaming any reason you want to do it on a TV not a decent monitor?

And hope the new build makes you enjoy a new gaming experience :)

Reasons because it's a gorgeous TV and it did just cost 1k to buy, I already don't use it as much as I thought, only The Last Of Us gets used atm so hooking a gaming rig up to it, it should get used.

Also my room is quite small, so with the glass table it's on, there really is only room at the side for a desk which would have to be small before it meets the wardrobes, but this goes away from graphics to should I buy another glass stand to just put a keyboard and mouse on whilst it's hooked up to the TV?

If you like, go on my instagram page www.instagram.com/shaunbates91 and the latest picture is the TV and that style of stand I have. I don't know if you can see but the bottom shelf has the Obsidian 550D on it, which is what this rig will be built into.

The room at the side of that, is only enough really for another one of those stands, or something of similiar size, the days of having a large desk there are gone.

i know the pain of having a tv and a monitor, i have both lol and if you want 3d from your pc i dont think it will work

The 3D isn't a must have on the PC. I don't use it now, I've had the TV for almost three months since it was released, bought The Hobbit and Avatar in 3D, and have only watched the first disk of the Hobbit, which by the way WTF?! Two disks, I thought Blu-rays had massive amounts of storage.

But ideally, if possible, to have it in 3D would be good because I can use that for movies then as well, and put the PS3 downstairs because my Dad is after the same TV soon so he could do with something to play 3D movies on. Not until I've completed The Last Of Us and GTA though. ;)

I could get a nice 24" monitor say but I'd still need room for the keyboard and mouse, I've not quite figured out how I want to do it yet.

you could go wirelessly, i dont like it but thats an option, and most of the time that second disk is normally a dvd, and a hd movie with lower compression could possibly fill a blu ray, i know they have around 25gb

The Hobbit is a 3 disk set, if your watching the movie in 3D, it gets about 3/4 through then says please insert disk two to continue watching. They should of fit the entire movie on one disk!

By wireless do you mean the keyboard and mouse? I still need to sit them down somewhere, my first though was buy another stand, pull it out with just the keyboard and mouse on when I use the PC. I don't play games often, I just love Battlefield, I presume BF3 allows the use of a controller? I could I suppose just use the controller to play BF4 when it's released, saves having to use a keyboard all the time.

I'd love an office room, just for a gaming rig. :P

If it was me, I'd go 2x 770's and a 24" 120hrz BenQ monitor with the money you would burn on a Titan.

Don't forget, your TV will only show 100fps even if you're punching out 200fps. Get a good monitor and SSD.

Whoaaa, spanner in the works. It will only show 100fps? Why? :|

Only thing I can think of is 10-80(100) 25-60(200)?

SSD right now will be a Samsung 840 Pro.
