Finaly setup MACH II low temps cpu,BUT HIGH TEMPS MOBO!

So i finally setup my Mach II and seem to have a problem, my mobo temps are HIGH, 47-C ! but the cpu temp read in bios as -24 C.

Is that strange or is it normal because of the heating element on the back plate?

Also mabey me cpu has reached the limit, and voltage in any combination of FSB speed with the mem at 100 and HTT at x2 my cpu is not stable over 2.600 GHz.

Is this normal for an A64 x2 4400? or is because my mobo temps are high?

What are safe voltages for X2 A64 cpu under prommie?

When you say mobo temps I assume you mean the chipset temps? That being the case ASUS board that you are using has a noth and a southbridge that are cooled with heatpipes - I expect that temp to be right.

What were the temps before the mach was installed - have you overclocked the CPU too?

I believe that ASUS sell a fan that can be mounted onto the northbridge, personally I would find a way to attach or direct air from a strategically placed 80mm (or 60mm) fan - chipset temps can be cooler too if you adjust the chipset voltage, which works better if you use the marvell network connection instead of the NF4 network (takes the stress off the chipset).

Of course motherboard temps could be referring to the MOSFET coller too - so I would try and driect some cooler air onto that as well.

Do one of these at a time as see if you can identify where the higher temps are coming from.

It's unlikely that the mach heater is causing the temperature rise as this is used just to prevent condensation on the back of the board under that where the CPU is mounted.

You can run your x2 at 1.6v safely overclocked,you can push it to 1.65 for benching.

For what its worth, I have a 4400+ on good water cooling running at 11*260 for 2860 with 1.5 vCore on an Asus A8N SLi Premium, you sure its the CPU letting you down?

It's probably not the CPU, with the mobo temps being so high it could be the other components are running hot (power mosfets) which will cause the CPU to be unstable at a lower speed.

I think it's worth doing what Mav advises above and get some good airflow (and sinks if required) on the go!

I did Oc the cpu before, the HS was an SI-120 with a 120mm fan @3000rpms and the mobo temps were 41C the cpu was 260x10 with 1.45 volts.cpu temps were 42C

but i did rule out that it wass the cpu .HTT was x2 and mem was 100

so i could get the max OC with machII.

Have you tried to find the source of heat on the mobo? You should be able to feel it without too much difficulty. Once you find out whether it is the NB or Mosfets you could create a plan to sort it out - namely heatsink and/ or fan.

I did rig an 80 mm fan on the NB HS and the temps went down to 41-43C but my cpu will not clock higher still.

The mem is @ 100 and the HTT is X2 anything above 2.6 GHz prime fails on core#1 and cpu locks up @ 2.7 GHZ and above, will not even boot @2.8.

High multi or high FSB will not boot above 2.8 and the temps in bios read -24C so the cpu has good contact!

can this be it, X2 4400 maxed out @ 2.6GHz? Crapp!

If it is the CPU it may be worth flogging it, then buying another...

I'm always in a process of buying/ selling a CPU to try and get that little bit more
