It won't be bits as that would make the drive slower than a USB2 drive.

Just got him to do a test - moving a 1.5gb file from the external HDD to the SSD and said he got roughly 102MB/s - which would imply the drive isnt limited at all by the USB interface

Looks the same size as mine - I'd guess it'd be the same direct USB interface on the hard drive so you couldnt take it out.
