EVGA confirms that they do not give "fake" or "tweaked" products for review

How is it a problem, that they make sure the fastest mode is selected? (they : not EVGA, but a few others)

Any decent reviewer of performance gear would enable this mode anyway. Only a complete fool would leave it at 'normal' setting. I'm guessing they simply try to protect themselves (and the reviewer) against that.

It is not a secret mode. It is not custom in any way. All users can do the same with the press of a button. They just 'pre-press' that button and TBH I think they should.

Does anyone really see this as a problem, or is it just that people really love to feel cheated and offended?

Its not the end of the world or anything but it is a bit cheesey/cringeworthy considering some reviewers compare 'out of the box' performance.

I'm surprised it wasn't picked up by the reviewers earlier tbh. Surely attention to detail is one of their main focus. The clock speeds have been widely known on these cards and I imagine benchmarks were ran in base and oc modes when looking at performance. I don't see any foul play here - as the cards will still offer the quoted performance as in the reviews. Eitherway i've just had a call to say I'll be having my new system complete with strix 1080 delivered on friday! I've had delivery dates slip twice (due to Asus) so fingers crossed :)

Yes EVGA what youvsee is what you get, a crappy now cooler. The old one was way better... Personal preference, but hey.

Is 'we are not cheaters' really a selling point now?

Apparently. Pretty sad, we know they didn't but for the less informed, multiple companies saying we didn't cheat just says one company did. They probably wouldn't trust any of them at that point.
