2080 TI on the fritz, should I buy a 6950xt or wait for 7900xt?

Half Tech Support Half buying help question. My 2080 ti has suddenly refused to increase its fan speed on its own. It will outright overheat and lockup my rig without so much as increasing fan speeds at all. There are even random moments where my rig will just outright power down all together. I have to turn the power supplies switch fully off, or unplug it, and let it set before I can even get power going back to my rig.

I tried looking into an RMA but MSI is saying I do not have warranty anymore even though I got this product in 2021... So I am worried my only solution is buying a new card

That said, is a 6950 XT AMD version for 800$ from AMD seems very tempting...but am I missing out by not going with the new 7900 series cards? Should I wait a bit longer or buy what is low in price now?

I would go with what suits your wallet best. The 6950XT is still a good card so if you can get a great deal, go for it.

And MSI are wrong if its bought in 2021. Cards have at least 2 year warrantee on them. You could send them back to the retailer you bought them from. They too have to honor the purchase if you still have the invoice/receipt. If they cant replace it with the same, you may be able to get credit/options to get the 6950XT at a better deal, or even the 7900.

It was an RMA card I got directly from them. I had a 1080 to that completely died and they replaced it in 2021 with that 2080 ti. From what I was told warranties are per card so it was odd when they said they were basing it off my 1080 tis warranty.

Then sadly, the Warrantee is indeed out. It still uses the same period from Product A.

It's why I won't be buying an MSI product again. The RMA process I went through to even get this defective 2080 ti was a nightmare. This is actually one of three bad 2080s they sent me before one lasted this long.

Anddddd I kind of want to change up to the red team. Nvidia is just not a healthy graphics ecosystem atm.

The 6950XT is a beast. An absolute beast.

Don't exclude the 6900XT though and the 6800XT if the prices are better. They are all within spitting distance and all way faster than a 2080Ti. I went from a 2080Ti to a 6800XT and I am extremely happy with it.

As much as any of the current amd cards are good, it's so close to the launch of the 7000's i'd personally wait and see before jumping on anything, also saying that i think your find the current prices will drop slightly more it's only a week till launch :)

I have to say and have many times my 6800XT has been solid :D

This is kind of where I'm at. I'm kind of expecting to snag a 7900xtx if need be.
