Enough cooling or need more?

Well I've ordered some new parts for my computer and started wondering if heat is a problem to me to start of I am going to have:

Midi Tower; no fans (already have the case, it's of a prebuilt computer..)

Core 2 Duo E8400; going to do a 20% overclock (does any higher give you significant performance boost?)

Arctic-Cooling Freezer 7 Pro; with Artic Silver 5

XFX Nvidia Gtx260 XT; this is basicly the Black edition but with just the green case D: and 30 euro's less :D, probably going to overclock this one a little to

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

Oh prolly a stupid question but, I never installed a cooler is the fan supposed to face up- or downward?

i have always believed that if the case could mount a fan somewhere then put a fan there. :)

as for cpu cooler. you may find it can only be mounted one way due to mosfets or capacitor snags.

if you have a top mounted psu i would get your cpu cooler to blow up.

well I can't place a fan but the left side is perforated so hot air can escape.

And the Psu is top mounted.

so thanks for the info

since it is an old case and you are popping better hardware than it had in i would strongly advise you install speedfan and see what temperatures you are getting.

stock cases are not designed to vent the added heat that higher end, and therefore hotter, components create.

you may have to add cooling or getter a better case or you may run into stability issues or worse

having the case side off can help but remember any passive cooled components, northbridge , etc may well rely on air flow through the case to keep cool.

a simple work around is to point a desk top fan into the case

cases are not too expensive, i'm running a q9550 and sli gtx 280, all overclocked in a £20-30 case.

What's actually a to high temprature?

For the CPU (stress) 70 degrees is doable (although I don't want that) but how about the rest

with a good cooler there is no reason your cpu should go above 40-50, mins at 34-35 but i am on watercooling.

the gpu will be higher, look for about 70 under load.

the case and motherboard could be anywhere in the 30-50 area.

as always the lower the temps the better for your performance and longevity

DONT go over 70 witht that processor. 60 is a good temp to aim for imho.

Nvidia GPUs are good for 120
