EK 9800gx2 Acetal BLOCK Fixed succesfully

hey all just curious,as i got my block down here in australia,as im from australia....thermal pads were not included in my package,i dont know if they were suppose to be included or not so i used the stock ones that were on the 9800gx2 card,only to see that the card does not even work anymore,there is no signal and monitor goes straight to power saving mode,iv tried it on a friends pc only to get the same outcome,im not sure if something got fried in the card,but how much do thermal pads play apart in this block working or not,any feedback or information would be greatly appreciated cheers.

Did you take static precausions ?

I know the 9800 GX2 is a damn fiddly card to take to bits and install a custom water block on there so if you fumbled this on using your bear hands without an earth strap or anti static gloves then you could have damaged the card that way.. seen it done so many times

Yeah to me that sounds like death from static. In my day I've fried a few motherboards which I could only put down to static. Remember like rob mentioned wear earth strap if non are available make sure you touch a metal part of your case often to discharge any static build up ... I also find working naked helps

lol well i dont encorage working naked its possible that you may have reassembled it wrong idk how the wireing is layd out but perhaps if both top and bottm pcb arent connected the rite way it wont work either. just a thought.

well,found a whole bunch of errors i did do,my ignorance led me to think i knew wat i was doing and instead of looking at the manual,i payed the price for not looking at the manual,got another 9800gx2 so will be doing a 2nd attempt on this one,hopefully with a great outcome this time round

They won't pay too much attention, a graphic card to them is pence so if I customer complains about a broken one replacing it is the best option. Plus it will keep the customer happy and maybe incourage them to buy more, resulting in increased profits.

im yet to put it back together,but hopefully it works when i do,save me the hassles of having to RMA that card.should be putting it back together today some time and the other 9800gx2 to the waterblock today also,this time following proper procedures lol.

id Just like to say,the 2nd 9800gx2 we installed it on,worked without any issues,i knew it was simple lil errors we made on the first 9800gx2 that led to it #!kn up,anyways will keep informed when the whole pc gets put back together,cheers all
