Last year Bethesda Softworks released its latest installment in the highly popular Elder Scrolls franchise. The MMO, appropriately named 'The Elder Scrolls Online', never really got off the ground. Last December, Bethesda has stopped selling 6-month subscriptions on the 'not so massive' online game, suggesting the game might become Free to Play in the not too distant future. It seems these rumours might be true, because another interesting thing has occurred.
Australian retailer EB Games will remove Bethesda's first MMORPG from its (digital) assortment on the 13th of January this year, as is claimed by a source from Kotaku Australia. A directive has been sent out to all EB Games stores, asking to return all copies of The Elder Scrolls Online, including all of the prepaid cards.
EB Games itself has stated that it's a part of a 'normal stock recall they do after Christmas', and it should include multiple titles. "Not just specifically Elder Scrolls," the retailer answered to a question on Facebook. Kotaku's source then stated that the other titles in the recall are all excessive stock, whereas all of the copies of TESO will be ditched in the next few days.
What do you think? Do you think The Elder Scrolls Online will become Free to Play soon?
