Fallout 3 - Review.

Any one played the Vault 74 mod? It's bloody awesome. Fannytastic, even.

Bear in mind though it is balls hard. Sometimes there are no clues at all and you have to use your intuition. Puzzles are mental hard. It's dialogue based and basically mimics a Fallout 1 quest.. As I say, you need to dig deep into the gray matter to get it done. Items are not pinpointed and you literally need to leave no stone unturned.

It's also pant sh***ingly scary. At one point the generator blows out and you are plunged into darkness. It then throws loads of crap into the loop.

If you do make it out in one piece? the finale is spectacular..

The only downside AT ALL is that it was originally coded in Russian. Thus, the conversion of language is a bit bad. However, it does make perfect sense. Just make sure you download the patches and english language pack :D

OMG. Over the past couple of days I have played the best third party DLC ever.

I've played a bloody good few of these tbh. Puce Moose's are really good but tough as nails.. They don't give any clues it's all manual.

The Vault 74 one is also very good, if a little messy.. But the one I have just completed blows them out of the water. It's actually better than Anchorage and Zeta IMO

It's called Vault 101 : Revisited.

TBH it doesn't sound very exciting but man oh man, it's absolutely brilliant. I won't say too much about it because I don't want the spoilers, but just wait to see what the underbelly of the Vault Tec building has in store.

The best part of all is how hard this dude has tried to make it feel like it is an extension of the game, and not what he wants to see. He has used software to recreate the voices (the actual voices) of the characters used and it's brilliant all apart from Amata. Her voice just does not work. Well, it does, but it sounds like software. The rest? You would never know. Alice sounds like software but then she's a robot, so it fits really well.

The quests are absolutely brilliant and hard as balls, it all works very bloody well and the end prize is a new house (your original one) in Vault 101.

Get it. Honestly, if you don't bother with another single solitary DLC get this one.

Just remember to inject the meshes using the app for it. I didn't bother and ended up with loads of messed up textures.

Such a great game, great review and great heads-up on mods. Cheers Alien

@Alien - Cheers matey!

@Diablo - I never found it unstable, can run it on my two year old lappy without any probs. And that's on Vista as well.

Important question though, will it be more stable?

Well if it picks up where Fallout 3 left off dev wise? yup, it should be as stable as the 1.7 patched Fallout 3 (IE almost perfect).

However I have heard bad things about Obsidian. Mind you, Bethesda used their engine so theirs was just as bad.. It may take some patience Diablo, but you need to remember :

Obsidian and Bethesda are relative 'amateurs' in the game coding world. This means that whilst their games are amazing to play (because they're not doing it to rake in the cash as much as a big greedy corporation) they can be buggy and unstable. Mind you, so can Codemaster's games (and usually are !).

It may take some patience mate but I'm absolutely sure it'll be worth the wait. Bethesda/Obsidian are leading the way ATM IMO. None of this ten minute corporate crap with multiplayer* on it. No five hour long games ETC.

*multiplayer as long as they say it's multiplayer and are free to pull the plug at any time leaving you with a five hour long crap game.

Fallout 3 is a game unto itself I am on the DLC's and I am casually taking a while to complete it but I know I must at some stage as it is a brilliant, genius game.
