Easy question

I am building my first rig, in between is an MSI GTX980, I've been watching a ton of youtubes, but they tend to slip the cableage.
This graphic card has a two-eight pin connexion, but the "no so good" manual it is a picture with a six-pin connector or a eight-pin connector, and shows to connect one or the other, not both (or so I understood)
The cable from the PSU (PCIe) has a double ending eight-pin connector, should connect just one or both
Quess many of you will laugh about that :)

Thanks for your time

Connect both, the card more than likely wont even boot.
In the manual they might be symbolising how to plug the PSU connector in.

as far as im aware it has 1x8 pin and 1x6 pin

And any decent PSU with the right Power rating, will have at least 2x 6+2 pins. so you will be fine :)

And the only question thats stupid honestly is just the one not asked.

generally GPU will have either 6 pin or 8 pin, more power hungry cards like 980 or 970 will use more than that and will have either 8+6 or 8+8 pins.

you always want to plug both in to give it more power when the card needs it otherwise you will run into issues if card doesnt get enough power.

I'm pretty sure the card would start and boot from just a 6pin, but under heavy load would crash without having all power connectors plugged in.

I thought that the 970 wasn't a that power hungy card, if you compare it with the 980 and R9 290 lol.

If you don't plug both in i'm pretty sure your PSU will prevent the rig from booting. It'll detect an error and kick in safe mode(ie. shut down)

Its not that stupid a question really. Just plug in both connectors. As mentioned above, the card will most likely prevent a successful boot if you don't have all connections hooked up. If your card is a typical 6pin and 8pin, then look close at your psu 8pin connectors, 2pins should be detachable on each of the connectors so you can just fold back the unused pins and plug it in.
