Left my PC on, as I always do.

Came back to it flashing red / white, no idea HOW long it had been like that.

Restarted...I get black, fizzy lines.

I am in Safe mode /w Networking right now.

"Driver detected an internal error in its data structures for ."

is the error that appeared. Any ideas? Obviously related to drivers, but what could have happened to just randomly, bam, this?

I tried a System Restore...it made it to Desktop, then it rainbow colored out. Very strange and worrying. It happened after I installed a video converter program:

Only now did I notice the no security information on the side. Supposedly it was removed via System Restore...but yeah.

So I uninstalled the drivers in Safe-mode, booted into Normal worked, it installed, but I got this:

Worried one of my GPUS may have died. Installing the latest drivers now and seeing what happens...

Rebooted, had it happen again after installing drivers.

Scary as fuck what happened next:

I saw it in the BIOS. So I shut down, made sure everything was secure, and rebooted...and now here I am again in Safe-mode.

But in the BIOS!

What is going on? Shiiit, I do not have the money for a new rig right now...

One of my GPUs in Device Manager says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

The other seems to be working perfectly.

I would power on the system with one card at a time to see which card has failed, if it has. If both work on their own then maybe a dodgy PCI-E slot?

If one has failed and you identify which one then just use the one card for now and maybe upgrade to another GPU?

System restore doesn't really do much. You need to do a system image recovery to get the full effect of a previous time before shit goes bad.

Ok, so.

After re-adjusting the cards, putting them back in, I couldn't even get past the splash screen. I was really upset at this. So I did the next thing, the heart-rending test.

I removed one GPU.

System still fucked up. I was crestfallen. Removed the first, put the second one in and here I am.

But I just cannot fathom why this one went bad! It's the same as the other one...except, one unique difference is, two years ago I loaded it up with custom Bios found on OCN.net that allowed my core clock to go up like 50mhz, and everyone reported it safe, but it's been fine til now.

I've been looking at the card itself, for anything wrong, and I don't see it.

I should be counting my blessings one still works, right? Yet I can't get over the fact a 400$(Two years ago), card is now dead.

And sure, I could Warranty it, oh boy I wish I could, but I put a custom cooler on it...which I am pretty damn sure voids the warranty.

This has really shown me, I know it sounds ignorant coming from someone who claims to be a tech enthusiast, but I am done with SLI / Multiple GPus, from now on, it will be only single. From the extra heat, power, lack of profiles, games that hate it...it's been a headache since I had that crazy idea of "You know, maybe I can...SLI"

I guess I am just saying it's not for me. I will try some things...whatever I can I guess in hopes of it working again, as I really DO need it, I run 2560 x 1440 @ 120HZ, my monitor has no scalar, so if I run sub 1440p, it looks super blurry and not sharp at all. Plus after two years of 100FPS+, it's tough to go back.

Ahhh, so frustrated, so so so frustrated.

Just why oh why did it chose tonight, memorial day, a long weekend, I just subbed to a MMORPG...and then BAM.

As I said I do not have the money to shell out for another GPU right now, and even if I did, I'd have to replace the cooler as the way my case is setup, it'd be too hot otherwise. So that'd run me more.

I just want a GPU, that can provide +50% performance of GTX670. A single GPU that is, I am hoping on the 880 line.

I wouldn't let this put you off SLi matey, this sounds like something that thing installed buggered something. It wouldn't just out-of-the-blue asplode at the same time as you doing that? Doesn't make sense to me

Was the video converter one of those that uses your GPU at all?

Nope. Just a normal type.

But what else could it be? As I said, one GPU works - the other doesn't.

How would I manage that? I don't know if I could even find the original bios, it's a GeForce GTX670 EVGA FTW Edition, the one with the 680 PCB.

Just afraid that anything else I do will cause this one to screw thiso ne up. I had replaced it with some Galaxy drivers...one sec.

Perhaps later tonight I'll try flashing back if I can, and hope something happens, but like I said, it's been running two years fine...sudden issues now are surprising.

It happens. I blew a single 670 (EVGA 4gb sc) just by running the star citizen hanger module in sli. I could actually see where on the chip that had popped. Since it was evga I got it replaced on warranty (was water cooled) and I got another 670 while it was being replaced. Then I took the piss out of myself for having 3 670's.

It didn't put me off sli, rocking 780ti's now.

and I just went down stairs for 20 mins, came back up to a BSOD. Scary, but better than previously.

Only thing I can think of is, I updated to the latest 337.88 drivers after this whole mess because I cleaned properly beforehand.

Just one issue after another, eh? Even though it ran fine for like 3 hours last night while playing a game...

PRobably going to Format soon just to remove all doubt of it being some kind of freaky virus.

Can a Virus even affect the bios? I mean I know like, super advanced ones used by countries to spy on others, sure, but could some generic Internet one do that too?

I'm unsure what you mean by "in the bios"?

Some viruses can access anywhere a program can access, so that means bios and wherever. Most CPUs have code to prevent it. In my Amiga days TSR's where a problem (Terminate Stay Resident) which meant they would remain in the memory and only be flushed from a power down.

I'd try the card in another machine if you can, to know for sure.

From my experience with EVGA (Awsome btw) they are more than happy to provide warranty for cards that have modified cooling, as long as there is no physical damage they are willing to help out, same goes with the bios update, they dont seem to mind it.

What temps were your gtx 670's running at, noticed that your max was 63C with aftermarket cooling? As I used to have 2 in sli as well, specifically the 670FTW editions (really nice cards, especially when OC'd) and even with really poor airflow the temps were pretty good with the reference cooler (compared to my 290x anyways lol), only needed to w/c when I started to OC them for the nice performance boost.

As for the original bios for the cards, unfortunately I deleted my backup some time ago , however you should be able to find it in the TPU storage, they have a large variety of oficial Bios's.

Also please try to refrain from using such strong language, I can understand your frustration, however using such language does not benefit anyone.


EDIT: Noticed that you actually created a thread about a fast fan speed issue, yet never gave any additional info nor got back to the people that were helping out. Was it resolved?
