im just guessing most of you think "warez" but thats not what this thread is about, universal music will launch something called "spiral frog" in december where you can download music for free and advertizment will pay for it.

can read more on it here.

http://www.spiralfrog.com/about.aspx

can only say, it feels good to se a company with the will to change for the future.

advertising alone could never cause these sites to break even, maybe lower the cost, but i dont see this working personally.

This is a strange one.

I think it would definately pay off if it was given time to work. Reason I say this is that immediately these people are going to have minimal advertizing, and they will legitimately have to pay their sources for the right to have the files for upload. So early on they could have to work near a loss.

However, as soon as 50billion people find out about the site, you then have a situation where you have a site with an incredible viewer/rating. This will draw better advertizers.. eventually.. then you have the case where advertizers, no matter how silly it seems for them to pay millions to put merely their logo on the side of a car, can now have a logo - that`s also a link.

Cunning.

on he short run i agree but on the long run they could charge almos anything for advertizment as they will have MANY visitors.

but i hope they make it work, music today is way o expensive.

if it surives riaa and others trying to kill it befor it gets going id say it has a chance to be somthing big like others wont make alot starting off they will need someone with alot of cash to back them to get going.

im sure that per click ratings on adverts are about 7p per click...or there abouts

royalties for artists would be at least 50p per song i think

hence the user would have to click at least 7 adverts for every song they download, seems unlikely to me
