Recently bought an usb to Lan converter...tried it on several machines and this didnt work on any of them...reported and returned the item faulty ...and suprise suprise they say its not faulty and kept the extortionate dilevery cost of £15 + vat...I think this is a way of them making there money. The issue here is that there saying its not faulty when it is....Wesly the manager there has no idea about customer service and this has to be the WORST SERVICE I have ever recieved...there are many people who have had the same problem i wish i just read them before i purchased from them....NEVER NEVER Purchase from Scan.co.uk again.

My next step now is to take this legal as I feel that this is a scam done to many people.

i for one have had no issue with scan ither returns or customer service or anything for that matter

i have done shipping returns and instore returns and not one issue.

i dont think wes is the manager ither

legal action will end up costing you more than its worth fella unles u have a army of atternys

I have no idea if this is a SP4M B07 or not.

This is only 1 bad experience, so take it as a mistake. I know it has cost you money but, there may be a reason behind it.

I can't remember whether I have purchased from Scan, but I know they're big in the game.

Another bad experience I guess. We always look for flaws, we never mention anything positive.

I've bought from scan plenty of times, can't remember if I've ever had to return anything. Imo a good company.

Regarding the £15 delivery fee - I take it this is what you paid postage to return it to scan? If so, how would they be making any money out of it? Why would such a successful company need to 'scam'?

its strange he had to pay to send it back every RMA ive had to do they sent a courier to me all i had to do was wait on the replacement

there site even says in the T&C 's

Insofar as it may be established that there was no defect in the goods at the point of delivery to you, we reserve the right to charge you £10 (well actually says 10) as a contribution towards the cost of inspecting and testing the goods.

So first off legally cos is does not say £10 they cannot charge you a penny as for a checking fee. they messed up there. http://www.scan.co.uk/terms.aspx

Dunno were they got the £15 sum from though lol.

hmm £15.00 for delivery cost back to them. did he not pay for that him self cos if he expected them to pay delivery back then hes living a dream world pmsl.

if you baught the item via shippin they will send it back for free if its faulty

if not they will charge, for the service plus the shippin costs

Possibly spam?

Scan have and probably always be my main choice. Free shipping via av forums, great customer service and shipping speed. Prices arent the best but ok

My bro was going to send his graphics card back to Scan because he thought that it was messing up. They said that he had to pay for the return. It was his mobo that was the problem

Anyway, I only buy PC stuff from 2 places. 1 being where I've always bought stuff and I just started buying stuff from the other. Other than that, I don't trust any other fu**er.

I think everyone has there special places to shop and they normally try stick to those selected few places, Does make things easier.

And we have our bad experiences where we personally chose never to shop there.

But at the same time all businesses have their mess ups.

But from the sounds of what people are saying that this company like to charge a lot of different extra charges for small things. Weird

Oooo. Quelle surprise ! it's happened to some one else.

Coincidence? I think not.

Scan can take a running leap as far as I am concerned. Will never ever use them again.

With internet sales you can return it for any reason under the sun within 7 days as the not as described law. This means even if it's a different shade of gray to the picture then you are entitled to a full refund without loss of a red cent due to the distant selling act.

Scan do not seem to understand this law and have become a law unto themselves. See also - restocking fees.

As for your RMA? well, I had RMAd through Scan about five times before the horror show that was my Sapphire pure motherboard and at no time did they ever attempt to sting me.

This is, quite fragrantly, a new tactic they are using to make sure THEY don't end up out of pocket for selling things that may not work as they describe on their site.

And, to that ends they can go f**k off. I will never, so long as I breathe air on this planet we call earth buy anything from them again.

The product I bought was blatanty not as described.

I explained this to them on the phone but all they seemed to want to do was argue with me and prove me wrong. The facts (and Scan I hope you are watching as you slowly lose more customers as the days pass) is that they are simply thickos who do not comprehend basic observance skills. Exhibit A is a box that my motherboard arrived in.

It is exactly the same photograph used on both Scan's website AND Sapphire's website. You will note the two Phenom logos? One is the Phenom series and the other is the Phenom FX series. Before buying this board I checked compatibility on Sapphire's site. Upon recieving the board two of the VRM sinks fell off. Upon using the board it simply did not work. I checked over Scan's website time and time again and nowhere on their site did it say -

This board may need a bios update to support ALL Phenom series CPUs

Yet it did not. So, I could (at least I thought) safely assume that it definitely supported mine as nowhere did it say it did not. It didn't. And, oddly, once they had it back there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I cry bullsh*t.

They then proceeded to (at my cost of 10p a minute) patronise and insult me over the phone defending their (quite frankly) outrageous terms from the Scan B.O.B (Bible of bullsh*t).

To that ends I have spent the last couple of months trawling the internet and advising people of the moronic foolish bufoons that they are.

In business you need to (as much as you can) put the customer first. The customer is most always right, even if he is wrong. However, I was clearly right. My product was advertised to support my CPU and at no point was it mentioned that it may not. They didn't answer my emails forcing me to spend money to phone them ( actually earning money from their shortcomings which I find disgraceful ! ) and I ended up over £15 out of pocket.

Charging people to test items that they (apparently) find no fault with is absolute horse apples. Total and complete rectum gravy.

I've also heard tons of bad stuff about Overclockers. But, with all three of my last products I had small issues.

Issue 1 - Razer mouse with free Tshirt. No Tshirt. Within two days I had an express delivery of a Tshirt land on my doormat.

Issue 2 - Patriot SSD. Resolved in 35 mins.

Issue 3 - question about my 470. Answered within the hour.

And none of those issues cost me a red cent because their email service was bang on the money. Scan ignore theirs.

As far I had no problems with Scan and RMA - we will see this time as I'd like to RMA my Motherboard.Got 1 email from them with question, and waiting for reply.

It's even better than that.  Under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 you have 7 working days from the day after you take delivery to notify the supplier of your intent to return under DSR.  This can be email, letter or phone call.   You are then legally entitled to a full refund including the cost of delivering the items to you.  This refund has to be paid back to you within 30 days. Apart from a few exceptions (e.g. shrink wrapped digital media) you are, under DSR, also entitled to unwrap and try out the goods before you return.  The onlly thing to be aware of is that. providing the supplier has clearly stated in their Ts & Cs about DSR returns, you may be obliged to pay the shipping costs to return the goods.

There a good DSR return letter template here http://www.consumerd...ers/dsr_letter/

If you are returning faulty goods it's a different law - The Sale of Goods Act.  Generally for a faulty item less than 6 months old you are entitled to a full refund (inc. your cost of returning the faulty goods) or a brand new replacement.  You do not have to accept/agree to a repair.  Between 6 months and approx. 6 years (depending on the type of goods) you are entitled to a repair or replacement of reduced value (sliding scale), depending on the typical durability of the item in question.  These are your minimum legal rights and cannot be varied by any supplier's T & Cs.  Any warranty they offer is totally separate from and in addition to your legal rights. The nature of any warranty offered cannot be less than your legal rights.

There are still many, many etailers whose online Terms and Conditions breach either or both the DSRs and SOGA.  Legally they don't have a leg to stand on because they would also be in breach of the Unfair Conditions in Contracts Regulations.

They continue to get away with it because people are either unaware of their statutory rights or, if they are, will not take appropriate action.

If in doubt, use free expert legal advice from Consumer Direct or Trading Standards,
