Dominator GT or Platinum?

Hey folks, I'm finally getting a new machine. I am now stuck on choice of RAM - basically I have always been using fast modules with tight timings. I am going to do the same now, and I have decided on 1866 modules, with 9-10-9-27. The question is - would you go for:
Dominator Platinum
or
Dominator GT?
Both are 2x4, both have the same timings and speed, both are 1.5V
I don't understand the price difference.. Doesn't make sense to me. The color doesn't matter, because I will change the heatspreader anyway.
BTW the mobo will be MSI Z77MA-G45, mATX build. Pictures will follow soon.

With my color theme I will go for platinum because the color:)You will have motherboard with blue accents so I will go for platinum. In my opinion blue doesnt go with red really good.

The Dominator Platinums are wayyy to expensive imo, much more sensible to go with some Mushkin Ridgebace or Corsair Vengeance... something like that. Just make sure your RAM fits under your air heatsink if your going to use air cooling

I am changing the heatspreaders for low-profile ones. Not going to overclock the memory at all. Maybe I could just go with V engeance, since kit with the same specs can be had for £47.76. Duh. Confused now.

I've bought these shortly after TTL did the review. He said they can be run on 8-8-8-24 with voltage increase to 1.5V. I was using 4 sticks of my Dominators back then, running at 1.65. I thought, well, let's save some energy.. But I couldn't get them stable on 8-8-8-24 @ 1600 no matter what. Even 1.65V. I could only go 8-9-9-27. Sold them to my mate. I don't like to mess around, you see. Will rather get a set that is certified to run at certain speed, and run it that way. Memory overclocking doesn't bring any real benefits, not for my use anyway.

I can run my memory at 1866 with 8-9-8-24 on 1.65, but it doesnt increase anything so I just stick with lower speed and lower timings.

That's what I mean, I am only upgrading from my current i5 750 to i5 3570k so I can enjoy BF3 a bit more... Also I want to have Sata III support and get SSD. Difference between 8-9-8-24 and 9-10-9-27 in games will be like 1fps? Not worth the hassle. Better buy something cheap, stick a low profile heatsink on top and leave it be. Getting the Vengeance I think. I can always tinker with it later on if I am bored :)

I think that on SB processors 1600Mhz CL7 memory was performing better in games than 2133Mhz CL11 or CL10. Thats why I went for my memory with lower speed and lower timings. I'll have a look in a minute and try to find this memory test.

I found This - difference between 2133 and 1866 modules being incredible 0.28 fps! :)
I could pretty much go with a 1600MHz memory, but I think I fancy something quicker this time. I am worried about the timings the most- if I was to get 1600 module, it would have to be 8-8-8-24 or lower. These are even more expensive than the 1866.
Oh why is it so difficult.

If you want looks buy the platinum but if you are on a budget buy some g.skill ares blue 1866mhz @1.5v with the same timmings and they can be easily oced to 21330@9-11-10-28

As others have said Mushkin or Vengence low profile, no point in the platinum's if ur going to remove the heatspreader with the led's
