Dead Mobo?

My friend just called me and said he has a problem...

He powered down his pc a few days ago and after getting home from work tried to turn it on... no go. LED's on the mobo come on, but nothing else shows signs of life. He switched out his psu for another (a 550W psu from my old Mini Mullet that powered a m-ATX/SLI pc I had), and still has the same prob. Looks to me like the mobo has a problem, told him how to check his psu with the wire from green to black connector on 20-24 pin psu connector (watercooling trick that NoL posted was good for checking if psu is toast, nice twist)... will see if maybe the psu is at fault.

Got a question of my own... If I let him use my old A8N32SLI/DDR-500 RAM/ Opty170, will he have to reinstall Windows? His Striker uses the nVidia 590 chipset, while the A8N32SLI is NF4. I don't know much about the hard drives with OS's that use this chipset or the other or if they're compatible etc. etc. etc. Just thinking of something he can use while he waits for a replacement mobo if that's what it comes to.

First get him to strip out everything bar the PSU, Mobo, CPU, 1 mem stick and gfx card. Then reset the CMOS and try again. Then maybe try the other sick of ram.

As for the windows install, there is another thread open on that atm, I'm sure someone will link you
