Custom RX Vega 64 vs Custom GTX 1080 with 1440p Freesync

Thanks for pointing it out. The cheapest places to buy from are Germany, but either I can't find the one I want in stock or they won't ship to Ireland. I'm not sure if they offer the promotion.

I'm also having trouble sourcing the memory I want. This build is such a pain in the ass. I want to give people money, but they're making it so hard for me to do so.

Email them and ask?

Yeah, I could, but I don't need to. The Aorus (either Xtreme or... non... Xtreme) are the ones I want. I can buy them for £540-580 depending on the model and shop; they're cheaper from Germany due to currency exchange and VAT rates, but like I said I can't find any in stock. No German retailer is listing the 11 Gbps version that's not been released for long. Aria has the non Xtreme version for £520 including the free Shadow of War game, while Scan has the Xtreme Edition available to Pre-Order for £540. I'm going for a black and orange build so Gigabyte is the one I want. The G1 Gaming was originally the one I was gonna go for, but the Aorus line is so well made and cools so incredibly well that I'll happily splurge for it. I just have to decide whether to wait for the 11Gbps model to become readily available, and whether the Xtreme Edition is worth the extra £40 (it's a 2.5 slot GPU versus 2 slot and has been said to be even quieter) or not.

My opinion fwiw the vega cards particularly 64 are not really a logical option other than for those who want to stick with AMD or for mining the competition are similar in price but offer better performance less nose and temps and power draw.
You should buy what ever is going to suit your computing needs rather than anything else as it is you using it not Nvidia or AMD.
I go bang for buck always and whilst for me the rx4 and 5 series certainly offered bang for buck the vegas just don't

You are better off with this than the Xtreme version. All nvidia cards basically OC to the same point as I found out with mine. 100mhz isn't going to do much in games anyways. No point imo to spend more money for that extra clockspeed AND losing out on a game worth $60(pounds/euros/etc).

Did some searching on Aria for you.
Aorus 11Gb memory speed card you mentioned at only "£503.99 inc. VAT" and comes with the Shadow of War game.

The man has a point. Cooling is not the limit on the 1080, so they all end up around about the same. That's why the FE became so popular, because people could use it to exhaust the heat and it would still clock like bat s**t.

It won't be for extra performance; it would be for slower spinning fans. But you're probably right. It's not worth it. Are the 11 Gbps models worth it when I plan to overclock myself anyway?

I'm a bit apprehensive about buying from Aria. TTL doesn't recommend them.

Not sure how memory OC'ing works out for Nvidia in regards to Max clocks, but I doubt you would go from the 10ghz to the 11ghz. At that price I would get it
As for Aria I have no idea. You mentioned them so I did a quick search for 1080s.

I checked reviews and the 11Gbps models can overclock to 12Gbps while the 10Gbps models only overclocked to 11Gbps. It might be worth getting the higher-end model.

Gigabyte isn't making an RX Vega GPU:

That's the nail that seals the coffin. I'm buying a 1080, probably the one from Aria. TTL said he doesn't like Aria, but I don't like it when people do that. Either say nothing or explain yourself. Cryptic statements do nothing but confuse.

The rest of the build is pretty much in the cart ready to be ordered. I'm not waiting for Coffee Lake. I'm going with a 1600X and the C6H.

I never had a problem with Aria its a good etailer and competative

Been using the fast sync and I can say it has helped a little bit for the overall smoothness, it's not as good as freesync however but better than nothing.

Thanks for the advice on Aria. I appreciate that. I'll go with them.

I just played Arkham Knight for a couple of hours with Freesync disabled in Radeon Settings and I could not I wasn't using it. Gameplay felt pretty much the same. I thought Arkham Knight would be the perfect game to test since the frame rate fluctuates so much.

I'll order my parts now. Thanks again, folks. I'll do a build log for the craic.
