Sorry for digging this back up from November but I couldn't help but comment
Id quite happily move to the states
I guess from reading this thread that you seem to be having the issue with polish moving to the UK.
But here in the states there is an insane number of people moving up here from Mexico.
... and the English ones have Polish translation on all isles :s.
We have many many many places that have Spanish translations on the isles, and just coming up with a number that seems right in my head, probably more than 40% of products have Spanish translations
on them. I live in Washington, Which other than Hawaii and Alaska is about as far away from Mexico as you can get in the states yet we have one of the higher percentages of Mexican immigrants. Kinda weird...
sod that,
id rather not live amongst Americans....there are many many things about their culture that bug me.
don't get me wrong, a lot of them I'm sure are nice folk, but .....i just wouldn't want to live there
Sorry for asking but if you come back to the thread would you enlighten me on what culture things bug you?
I personally
HATE all of the stupid stuff that is portrayed on television as what has become of our culture.
They have taken the extremes of idiodicys that have appeared here and glorified them.
This has caused people to think it is the norm and caused a skewed sense of reality.
I grew up seeing these things and thinking to myself WTF is wrong with people?
And then I see my friend across the street the next day saying or doing the same stupid crap...
But just wanted to let you guys know that there are the same things going on in a lot of places, getting a job here can be rough if you can't set yourself apart from the crowd in some way.
(I'm one of the few lucky people who got offered a job and didn't even have to apply for it... but that was because I was volunteering helping a high school team build a robot and one of the sponsors offered me the job because of how much I helped the kids... It probably didn't help that it was my girlfriend's dad... Its still a little weird working for him tho... XD)
(Just to give some insight on my job for those who want it thats what the next bit is about, if you don't care just skip to the last sentence)
I was offered the job after he saw me working with the kids on my GF's robotics team (I graduated from a diffrent High School 2 years before and she just graduated last week) but I was helping them learn how to use Solidworks and run their old-school CNC mill. He saw how I made them really efficient and offered me a job working for him. At first I just kinda went along with what he was saying, not thinking he was actually wanting to give me a job just making sure I had one (I was being a lifeguard as I have for the last few years *We're not all dumb!* and building computers on the side). But then he got really pushy and was like so, when do you think you can start? Finally I was like, "OK, next week after finals." I thought I was going to be doing just basic manual labor and things of that sort. I was wrong... Basically I am a one man think tank... They give me parts of their manufacturing processes that are slow and I find a way that makes it faster or easier for the workers... Its like my dream job! So lately I have designed a piece of equipment that will take one of the stages of making a specific part (that they make thousands of a year) from around 1-2 minutes a piece to I estimate 5-10 secons a piece... (just one step not the whole process)... ok, back to the topic that I'm sorry I dug up...
Any way, you should see the crazy rednecks (Do you use that term in the UK?) that go tromping around the US-Mexico boarder looking for people trying to cross illegally... Once again, sorry for digging up the post
