CPU running too hot!?

Hi guys!

Really stuck here! My computer has recently started running temps of 80-90c; I have no idea why... I overlocked my cpu when I first built my machine and its ran fine at 35c and at a push 40, but just recently I idle at 60c+ and when I game I start hitting 80-90c.

I re-applied my cpu paste but it still hits that stupid number.

I have 3570k overclocked to 4.0ghz
H100i Heatsink (2 SP120's)
Artic Silver Compound paste...

Any ideas? Absolutely stuck!

Thanks for any advice or guidance!

If you never had problems in the past and it's suddenly decided to spike, I'd suggest putting an ear to the pump on the H100i to see if it hasn't died.

Check the pump RPM in the bios aswell and use multiple temperature programs to see if it isnt an issue with software.

Try cleaning the radiator and fans?

Ghost - The tubing is really quite hot, which would suggest that water is being pumped around.

CorsairLink is telling me 55.2c on idle and my mobo gauge is telling 60/61c.

Innocent - Both rad and fans are clean :/

The tubing being hot doesn't suggest the pump is still working, heat transfer from the block to the water will still be happening..

How hot is it in your room this time of year? because my flat gets up to 30-35c in the summer!
Summer is a cruel mistress to my overclocks T_T

Around average temp, it was reasonably hot last year and my temps wasn't this bad - I have no idea what's up with it, the only thing I can possibly think of is my CPU is on its way out; contemplating buying another 3570k

Do you have a stock heatsink? swap it out quickly and see if it gets anywhere near to the h100i.

Then you'll have your answer.

Make sure to reset your bios to stock and then carry out the same tests.

Hopefully you've already tested stock temps with the h100i to see if it isn't an issue with your overclock.

Its at work... I'll have to grab it on Monday and test it then! Good suggestion!

I'll try that Monday and get back to you on that!!

+ Yes, I reverted back to standard clock 3.4 to see if it wasn't just a voltage thing - but I'm still idle at 61c

I think the pump speed is ok a small pump has to run faster to move the same amount of water as a big pump running slow I've got a ek 2.2 x-res pump it runs at 2644 rpm could be the chip dying I only put a over clock on just before a gaming night then reset it back down after im done

What is the divider set at on Link? That pump should be in the 2200 range. I wonder if the impeller blades may have broke.

I'd say so  The normal pump speed is usually between 1900 - 2200Rpm.

Kong - Whats a Divider set? Excuse my ignorance!

Reply to all - No matter what I change the pump speed to whether it be maximum speed or quiet it still remains at that 4k rpm. I guess that's unusual - I hope to god its my pump and not my cpu ! I'm testing my Stock intel fan today, so fingers crossed that the temp drops significantly, will feedback to you guys!

well lets just hope its a bad pump :)

It idles at 45/6 which is 20 degrees cooler than my pump :/

Not sure !

Off topic but I don't think your RAM is in dual channel mode the way it is installed now. Use either the grey OR the black slots (always have an empty slot between dimms) :)
