Ok wondering is CPU Lapping worth the hassle?

Seen on another forum that the reason some people get higher temp's on there cpu's that others even when using the same kit etc, could be due to the fact that the contact point on the cpu for the heatsink etc is never fully flat allowing for a proper contact.

If it is worth it is there anywhere where you can send your cpu to have it done if you don't trust yourself to do it properly.

I have lapped my i7 920... Temps are not too much lower but they are defo more even across all cores...

Before Lapping I had almost a 8c difference and now i'm down to max 2c difference across all 4...

IF you have a funky core temp difference and the hotter cores are getting close to the thermal limit for the chip then 100%, if the cores are fairly similar then the few c has never realy seemed worth it.

Its going to be 100% worth it for me when i get around to it as at load my 970 current loads at something like 68-64-61-60-65-70 under prime95 (3 re applications of thermal paste has ruled out me putting it on badly), if they were within 1-3 diff i wouldnt bother as the difference would be minimal but as it stands the only thing keeping my overclock back is the hotter cores, @ 4.2ghz each core is around 5c hotter and that takes the hotter cores over what ive set my upper limit at.

Cheers guess it's not worth the hassle of doing it.

Will probably have to get modding on my Cosmos 2 so that I can fit my proper rad in the case.

If I was going to lap anything it would be the actual cooler depending if it wasn't flat in the first place.

Voiding any warranty on the CPU just isn't worth it for me, so lapping is out of the question there.
