CPU Hunt

Well i cant make up my mind.

Im in need of a new CPU for my second rig. It's mostly going to be used for benchmarking (and therefore breaking the hardware on it:rolleyes:).

Basicly i've narrowed it down to either a Q6750 or an E4600.

The E6750 is tempting as, while its a decent price, it's a 1333fsb G0 chip, with the full 4MB L2 that could befit benching (if only a little). The overclocking results form it have been a mixed bag. Some getting 4ghz no trouble others struggling for mid 3s, as its multi is only 8.

Now the E4600 is attracting me as its multi is sat at x12. Its M0 so it should clock fairly well but the only report ive found on one was a lame attempt at best, and they cut off they're voltage at like 1.4. Achiving 3.3ghz max. And its nearly £40 cheaper than the E6750.

Rest of the rig is In9 Max (so no, im not buying a Q6600), 1GB of Balistix and whatever GPU i need dependent on the test being run. Cooling will either be a single stage or chilled water so i can apply as much voltage as i deem needed.

Anyone care to weigh in? I can't decide:(

Just a little confuzzled m8.

U looking for the cheapest performer coz there`s a chance u can break it ? (or that a kinda sarcastic "knowing my luck" thing? )

U looking to bench what ? Stuff in general or a cooling thing ?

And u narrowed it down to a E6750 or Q6750 ?

Since Q6750 doesnt exist more likely E6750 :D

I personally would choose the E4600, the less cache wont bother me itll mean I dot need such a high FSB, I prefer it :D

I have a question.

Whats the best way to sell my QX6700 and upgrade to

QX6750?

I know the difference to speed is almost none, but I hate seeing the price of my QX6700 go down....

Is there a way to pebble hop onto the QX6750 and then onto the QX9650?!

Oh sorry for the hijack ham!! lol maybe you can buy my QX6700

I'd say get the slightly higher end chip mate. How much you wanting to spend? Might have a chip here if your interested in one...

Oh cool which one?

Ill prob spend an extra £100 or so if I manage to sell the QX6700

I thought the best chip out now is the QX9650....

I know the QX99somthing is also coming out pretty soon too but thats gonna be way expensive

Umm was talking to Ham, the one I have is a C2D, not a quad

Benching will be 3Dmark (dreading 08) and superpi mainly. Im planning a single stage (funds allowing, so it could be another year long build...) for it so the cooler will be tuned for the CPU.

But no quad yet as the IN9 is 680i.

Im willing to go up to £160/70 if the chip is worth it. But i can't see the £40 jump from a E6750 to E6850 is worth it when the jump form E6550 to 750 is like £10.
