Corsair SP2500 or Edifier S530D

Right guys, so my birthday is coming up and I'm looking at treating myself to a nice pair of speakers. Not sure yet as to which ones which is why I'm here. Of course I've looked at some threads on here and looked at a couple of reviews on speakers but I haven't decided yet.
I'm looking for a good all-round set. I listen to everything from 70's rock and classical music to drum and bass. Apart from that I also use my computer for watching films and tv shows almost on a daily basis. Of course, there's the gaming bit too with Battlefield 3, Starcraft 2, Fifa 13.. all sorts of games really. If you're wondering about my rig, check my sig ;)

Currently I'm looking at the Corsair SP2500's which I know a lot of your on here recommend but I've read they're mostly focussed on gaming. Now I know that Tinytomlogan himself uses or has used Edifier S530D's but I don't think he ever reviewed them. They're about the same price with the Edifier's being slightly more (20 quid or so) expensive. Are they better than the SP2500's?

Also, I've seen some new speakers by Edifier come up recently. C2XD I believe they're called. They're cheaper than the S530D's, price-wise comparable with the S330D set I think, and are set-up differently. They use an external amp instead of one that's integrated into the sub. Does anybody know if they're worth looking at?

Short answer:

I use them because they are white, thats it. The SP2500's are better.

Cheers for the reply Tom. Could you perhaps go into a bit more detail as to how the SP2500's are better exactly? Better mids, highs, lows?
 
Dont get me wrong the Edifiers are bloody good, just not worth changing from the SP2500's

Theres lot of niggly things about the edifier's I dont like and tbh I cbfa to sit here and type it all!
 
Well unfortunately I'm changing from a crappy 10 year old Logitech 2.1 set, not the SP2500's and I prefer the looks of the S530D to the SP2500 so if you happen to have some spare time to explain what niggly things you're on about I'd appreciate it. There's not a lot of detailed reviews on the S530D's out there, let alone a comparison to the SP2500's. :(

Does anyone know how these compare to the Logitech Z906? I'd have to stretch my budget a bit but as it's something I'll have to live with for years I wouldn't mind.
It's 5.1 which is nice for films and games but does it live up to the aforementioned 2.1 sets in terms of music performance?
Or perhaps there's a better set out there for the money? As usual, any help is appreciated :)
 
I own the sp2500 2.1 system for my audio pc downsatirs. Simply hugely expansive sound with deep thundering bass and the treble is not tinny at all.
Take it fom an audiophile theyre fantastic and i`d say sound better than the aegos AE 3.1 system i have for my main gaming pc. I do prefer a centre channel though at times but with sp2500 u dont really need it.
Make sure u get yourself a decent psu as I remember 10 yrs ago switching from a crappy bog-std enermax to a tagan made my music sound so much richer and three-dimensional.
 
Alright cheers. Guess I'm going for the SP2500's then! And don't worry about my psu. The Corsair AX850 is a really good unit. More worries about my Xonar DGX soundcard. Not really sure if it'll quite cut it. If it doesn't I'll switch to something like a Xonar STX in the future.
 
Another option is a set of active monitors , A friend of mine has the sp2500's ,and they're no match for my ms20's and about half the price . They are only stereo though , but do have a great headphone amp built in . Paired up with my Creative soundblaster card they are awsome . Like Tom said about the Microlab solo 7c's they just give off loads of sound . The bass is that strong I basically have the settings on the card set to flat , and just use the controls on the actual speakers themselves .
If I remember they do a ms16 more like pc size .

I too have the SP2500, Matched with a decent sound card like the D2X and they sound sweet! Put on the Tron Soundtrack (FLAC) and it'll send shivers down your spine! :)
