Computer not Starting

Hey,

Finally home for xmas and have time to put my new motherboard in, buy mw2 and start playing xD

So i plug everything in, minus dvd drive. - minimum stuf...

The two 12v (?) plugs by the cpu are in, 24 pin, cpu fan all in

Turn it on, no screen output. All fans spin up. GPU fan goes crazy - its an 8800gts. I guess that its like the 9600gt, which is my spare card, in the way that spins up then goes quiet.

I only have one idea why:

It has some funky memory cooling which has made putting some screws in very difficult. Would not putting these two screws in cause it to not post?

Im currently trying to get these screws in. Oh what fun without a magnetic screw driver. Any other suggestions would be welcomed ;D

Hi

Have you got a speaker on the board? Do you get any post beeps?

I would say:

Check that the new board is not shorting out onto the case, use rubber or card washers on the stand ups.

Check that all the power is plugged up, does the board have the additional CPU 12V socket?

Do the usual, just board, then add CPU, Ram GPU.

Boot each time and listen to those post beeps. This should give you an indication where the fault is.

Since it is a new board that would be the second culprit after leads not been plugged in fully.

Let us know how you get on mate.

Also try clearing the bios, if not sounds like ram, try 1 stick or put something that boots at 1.8v in and up the volts, then try your other ram

Completely forgot about clearing the CMOS, if you have a handy button use it if not pop that battery out for a while.

tried the cmos and it doesnt do anything.

Wouldnt think that the board would short - I have made sure that I have all the mounting points in where there board allows them.

There is power.

I dont have an onboard speaker....Think that I might be able to find one and just connect it up. Thanks for the pointer.

Will let you know how you get on.
