Climb Kilimanjaro for charity

Hello!!

After doing by bungee jump last year in NZ for Rainbows Childrens Hospice, i thought it was time to plan something else.

After watching the Kilimanjaro climb for the red nose day, i soooo wanted to do it. If chris moyals can make it, i certainly can! (with training ofcourse!).

It will cost me £700 for the trip, but i will have to raise at least £3000 to qualify.

Does anyone have any idea's on how to raise this sort of money? With my Bungee i raised around £700 which is well short. (although that isnt as big as this).

So does anyone have any idea's?

What charity are you thinking of doing it for this year mate? maybe we could do a mail-out or something on the oc3d member list?

it will prob be Rainbows again, its a local one to me and they do such good work. think couple of other guys on here have done stuff for them.

Wondering if i had a t-shirt to wear where companies can sponsor to put there logo on it.

I like this idea, but please remember climbing the kili probably isn't even near any form of sports you have done before. It might look fairly easy to just keep walking but those five day hikes will wear you out.

Make sure you train a lot, including 1500 vertical meters a day trips and ice climbing before you set everything up definitely.

i certainly wouldnt be taking it lightly, you have an experianced guide with you at all times. I have done a mount sanai before, although this one is bigger.

Gonna have a word with my boss this afternoon, he usually comes up with some good idea's.

Im sure the local newspaper would be happy to give you some coverage?

How about a mail shot on OC3D and a front page news article about the trip (you'll have to ask Jim on the second one)?

did Kilimanjaro when i was in the army in kenya.

Some advice ..

Take lots of thin layers of clothing youll nee dit. if you were thick layers it makes life alot harder than it need to be and what ever you do do not take your top off if you get to the top. youll get sun burn very very fast.

Allso make sure you do lots of training before hand. a good way would be to carry 40lb back pack every day over 5 to 8 miles this will build up your tolerance to it. That way when you come to do Kilimanjaro it will make so much easer. As when you start getting to decent altitude you light back pack will feel like its heavy but your body will be used to the strain :) ...

all my best of luck if you do go ahead and ill start the bidding at my full weeks pocket money of £15.00.

Oh and if you get the chance to go with the massi mara on the plans and go on safari do it. you will never for get ever.
