CLB's I7 monster.

Due to CLB being so busy with work and not being so good at posting images (bit of a forum noob) I said I would get the ball rolling for him on his current project. Currently the hardware got or ordered is as follows.

MSI Big Bang X-power motherboard. We chose this as quite frankly the specs are absolutely frightening. More PCIE than you have had hot dinners and was super super cheap ($217 reduced from $300). It doesn't have Fusion but that's here nor there as he doesn't want it.

Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) X 2 for 12gb total. Basically after a good look I found this ram for $119 for the 6gb kit. That's nothing remarkable however when you buy two kits they drop to $79 a kit

I don't think $158 with free delivery and two 4gb usb sticks thrown in for free was bad

Case.

PSU. I doubt we will get any complaints here. He got it brand new sealed from a friend of his for $80. Can't argue really.

Cooler. Well it's obvious really. I would disown him if he got anything else.

GPUs. Pair of MSI 450GTS OC.

Don't have a CPU yet. He currently has an Intel X25v SSD which we have no plans of replacing any time soon.. Stay tuned for more info

CPU will most definitely be the I7 950 though.

Well in fairness we originally got them for a Core 2 E8600 system.

CLB had a 5850 but wanted Physx and CUDA (Mafia 2 mainly). The 450s were the same price as the 5850 sold for.

They're plenty quick enough for now though

I really love the look of the phantom but HATE how bad it is for cooling.

Only way I can see it working is to flip all the fans to exhaust and encourage negative air pressure because most of the case has filtered holes. Now, if I could slap a 200mm intake fan I would be really happy. I just can't do that with the NH-D14 and I get stuck with a stupid little mesh slot on my side panel where a window would have been much better. I prefer utility over beauty so I could never buy the Phantom unless it was overhauled.

I don't understand the point in using the 450 GTS cards when you could run 6850's instead.

Two 450s were $200. I highly doubt you could buy two 6850s for that and as I said before he wants Physx. Which the ATI cards don't have.

two 450gts's are worth the money... compare them(in sli) to a 470 which costs around 200... now thats why he went for them+ they are pre overclocked so even better!

exactly and the link i posted earlier on this thread proves why.......now maybe down the road who knows what time will tell!

Apologies on behalf of my CLB. He's stupid busy at work at the moment. Retail+America=slave to the trade.

Any way, hot off the press are the pics of his board which he took during one of his breaks today

Only one word can sum this up. Beast.

Note the two 8 pin?

Moving on then.

And then onto this rather curious looking device. As of right now neither of us have a jar of glue as to what you're supposed to do with it but hey, something to play with later on

I have word that he has now ordered his CPU and Noctua, so, the final specs (and I don't think I have missed anything out) are -

Intel I7 950

Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600mhz. 9-9-9-24 12gb (6x2gb)

MSI Big Bang power X58 board

Intel X25v SSD

1tb drive (forget what it was now, he's had it a while tho)

NZXT Phantom in white

Corsair HX 850 PSU

MSI 450GTS super OC or something

Noctua NH-D14

And anything I may have forgotten. More news soon, but I have a distinct feeling I'm going to get dragged into this on Christmas day and Boxing day

That little device is afaik supposed to give you system informations (temperatures, clocks etc.) and I think you are even able to overclock with it. It's kind of gimmicky but hey you get it with the motherboard
