cheapest card to use with 1440 x 900 res

Hi people im looking for a graphics card for my everyday computer thats powerful enough for playing games such as need for speed undercover at almost max settings easily but below the £80 mark. Im looking for ddr3 with 256bit memory controller but after that im stumped!

Any one recommend any good cards that will be suitable but not overkill consumption or price wise?

For nVidia, 9600GT is what I'm thinking.

For ATI, HD4670.

HD4670, brilliant wee card. Doesn't need external power and can be had for £60ish for the 512Mb version, not sure if its 128- or 256, but for the price its damn good

He is asking for something under £80 so I don't think he is willing to spend anything more.

And for light gaming it might be a bit overkill, and the power demands are a bit higher on the 4830. Still damn good card form what I read though

Most motherboards will take any of the two companies cards. But I am guessing you have an nForce and want to take advantage of Nvidia's gear?

You can lob an ATI chip in there if you would perfer.

I have a 570a board and it is quite happily taking the red team. Using the 4670 in it now, its awesome and cheap

As GavX shows with his setup it is possible to cross makes of card.

I also have a nForce 6 board running a ATI HD 3650. Runs fine.

I never knew that was possible! I always thought that if you had a Nforce mobo like mine i had to use Nvidia cards with it!

Result!



My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-73VM-S2 Mobo for the budget build with Nvidia onboard graphics hence the initial reaction that i had to use Nvidia GPU

Does that mean i can install the Catalyst drivers to run the graphics and change the drivers back to Forceware wenever i want?

As in install drivers for the ATI card and the install drivers for the onboard card? It should be fine. Althought I have never tested running two different make GPUs at the same time.

In theory it should work.

But if you mean you uninstall the ATI ones and move back to Nvidia then yes this will be fine.

Cheers. Ye sorry it wasnt very clear i did mean if i wanted to return back to nvidia instead of ati did i have to uninstall forceware and install catalyst.

Lets say you grab an ATI chip.

I recommend you uninstall and disable the Nvidia onboard card. Then install the ATI card and drivers.
