Cheap Windows OS

I got my new PC without an operating system and due to the license of the operating system on my hard drive (Windows 10, was 8.1) I have to activate due to it being different hardware, something I kind of knew would happen, but hoped it wouldn't :P

I am just wondering what would be the cheapest way to get Windows now? And where would be the best place?

I think maybe I could get Windows 7 cheap from somewhere as I will get the free upgrade to 10 anyway.

You should try giving Microsoft a call, if you can give them your old keycode and explain that you got a new motherboard they might be able to give you a new one.

I just checked on the Microsoft Site and it says you can use Windows 7 keys aswell, so I tried the code on an old laptop that is in pieces in my wardrobe and it worked :D

What you have now is an OEM license that is activated by your motherboard's DMI header. For example I have an Alienware and my Alienware Win 8.1 disc doesn't even need a serial.

It is not transferable to another computer, sadly. They are bought in bulk by Medion in your case and are not full retail serials.

I suggest www.g2a.com as I've bought keys from them in the past. Search for windows 8 as they don't sell Win 10 serials.
