Cheap Car Insurance

Well, I am 17 and recently passed my driving test (I say recently, I mean 4 months ago). Currently I am looking for quotes on a Vauxhall Corsa 1.0L, to be more exact a 973cc engine, But getting ridiculous quotes from £5000 to £15,000.

The car is insurance group 3, and cannot go any lower because this mean buying a much more younger car, which means more money.

Could anyone recommend any insurance company that will have a much better offer or car?

Thank you

The cheapest option may be for you to be a named driver on your parents insurance, it will still not be cheap though. How much have you said the car is worth? amd what is your excess? The cheaper teh car and the higher the excess will help bring your quote down.

The thing is, even though you may not be a boy racer you are in an age grooup renowned for it so will struggle for a while yet :/

Cheers, I was considering but.... technically you cant do that because of course, I will be the main driver. and excess will be about £500, and the car cost around the £1000 mark.

What price comparison sites have you used so far? I found elephant.co.uk to be the cheapest for Young drivers. I passed when I was 17 and the insurance on a 1ltr Yaris was about £3000 with me as the main driver. It dropped to £1600 with my Mum as the main driver and me and my older brother as the secondary drivers.

Don't worry about naming one of your parents as the main driver and you as the secondary driver. That is the only way to ensure you get a cheap enough quote you are happy with.

When I started driving last year (I was 18 almost 19) I found that putting me as the main driver and my mum as a named driver that this was cheaper then the other way around.

Also I found that instead of going through a compare website for insurance if you compare them and then go to the cheapest insurers website and getting a quote direct it was a bit cheaper. And don't forget to look out for deals, like ATM Aviva give you 10 weeks free which saves you 2 and a half months

How strange. I think it depends on how much experience your parent has (Years passed, No claim Bonus, No points, etc). My mum had a clean licence for 13 years when I got my first car insured and it worked out much cheaper with me as the secondary driver. There will be other factors that determine the cost of insurance and it's worth it to check different configurations to find out the best deal

That was the case with my Insurance for my newer car

Illegal though having a parent as the main driver if they aren't.

Think it's called fronting or something.

That said, if they don't find out.
