CD Bootable games for PC

 hmmm, gonna go use my nephews 360 and see if it even lets me transfer my holiday dv onto dvd.

The point being that a 360 does exactly what you want (play games with a stripped down OS off of floppy discs), better than any and every gaming PC in it's price class, and does it well

My old PC cost less and didnt lag on Carbon...........

Cost less than £250 and play with HDR + 4 x AA and full effects? Carbon is just badly coded - tell me if you think that same PC could handle Gears at that res and detail.

If you tell me it could then your 100% full of BS

This sounds like a very slimmed down Linux kernel to me, remove all the unused junk you won't need when playing games such as usb storage support, etc. You can just set up a dual boot between the two kernels. I understand that this is not a solution since most games don't run under Linux, but it would do basically the same thing without all the headaches of hardware compatibility.

Ya 360 games look multiply better than pc games.

I`d be interested if there were things they can do on the 360 in terms of techniques - coz the 360s hardware has them and a pcs don`t as yet.

If that`s the case, u can`t really compare the 2. U may aswell compare a pc to a MegaDrive.

Anywho, why we being defensive about the 360, the debate here is how well the pc would work if it just had what it needed, which aint as big a task, in theory, as yall think.

Well my actual point relating to the topic is could the 360 OS be converted to do what you want?

It's a stripped down and adapted version of the Windeows kernal that loads the whole game off of the disc

hmmph. Debatable, whether u`d want to use it or not.

Is it definately a stripped down WinOS ? If so I`d be very hesitant only because I`d prefer not to start straight off the bat with innefficencies.

I have no doubt that some hardware hack out there is trying to do it as we speak.

TBH i doubt the 360 uses 4xAA becasue even on HD the thing has lots of jaggies. Also, on MY tv (standard) isnt the res like 320x240 or somethin? Yea, any PC can play Carbon at that res dude. And the 360, or any console for that matter, is a perfect example of what you want. You just have to code for specific hardware and you cant change it for all games to work.

It does and just some games are badly coded. There's actually 4 x AA hard-coded into the thing using a chip

Ye no kidding...that's why it looks 50million times better in HD and recommended play with a HD compatible TV/monitor

Indeed, or it wouldn't work. Having said that I don't see why you couldn't adapt stuff to work for a specified windows kernel. However this is an idea nd is most likely to never happen :p

Well to me it still seems like he wants DOS to come back tbh. I mean, no OS, but still kinda an OS, but loads off of disk. Sound like DOS.
