but i've seen 2004 volkswagen golfs (5door) going for about £1,500 with about 150k on the clock is that good or bad or should i be looking to pay a bit more? Talking to people ive got mixed messages some say avoid the car cos thats too low a price other say its good price.
If you shop around you can pick up petrol Mk4 golfs with 1.6 engines that have done under 100k miles. They'll go on for a good while, only issue is gearboxes. The only golfs worth getting with 100k+ miles on are the Diesels, as they'll go on and on and on but they tend to be junk at the price you're looking at. Oh and the only Diesel golfs that are worth getting are the GT TDI ones. The basic Mk4 diesel does an excellent tractor impression and the insurance is dreadful as it is a 1.9L.
I'd look at a 1.6SXI corsa.
