Fallout 4, preview under the microscope, after many discussions in the news thread and many heated opinions I thought I'd take a look at the preview in detail and a little closer, mainly to try and deduce which engine Bethesda may be using and are those graphics an improvement on the last games in the series, as for the improvements yes there are definite improvements in the models as far as I can see, the model poly counts are obviously greater than those used in FO3 and somewhat similar visually to FO:NV and Skyrim, even the animations namely the way the characters run have a Skyrim feel to them, which only adds to my findings later regarding the possible game engine. It was the way the Dog moved that convinced me in the end, just compare that to the way the foxes and dogs behave in Skyrim and you'll see where I'm coming from.
I've been analyzing the textures, effects and models found in the newly announced Fallout 4 video. As far as I can see there are vast improvements mainly in the Anisotropic Filtering, LoD levels, Tesselation and also fog, now fog wasn't used in Fallout 3 instead they opted for forced perspective and bloom effects, it wasn't introduced (badly) until FO:NV and Skyrim which as we know used the Creation Engine rather than the dated Gamebryo Engine of FO3 and Oblivion.. Which has me believing now that Bethesda are indeed using a new engine and I'm inclined to say it's a modified version of their own in house Creation Engine.
Yes some of the shots are a little ropey and rough around the edges but that is due in part to the video containing nothing more than actual in game footage, which brings me to the next point, the footage we have can in no way be maxed out graphically or the lowest either so that leaves us only medium details across the board which makes sense if you think about it logically when developers have consoles to take into consideration too, if this was deliberate by Bethesda, Kudos to them for not doing the CDProjektRED tactic of showing us the polished goods first then watering it down so not to disappoint "everyone" in the final release.
Anyway lets see what you guys think to my findings, maybe you agree maybe you don't, discuss below and share your thoughts.
(remember this is a discussion not an argument, always respect the views of others)
