can't find my HDD :(

ok so i broke my windows 7 install (well Folding broke it)

i put my set up disk in and it cant find my SSD or HDD

i know it is not them at fault as a windows XP disk finds them

so far i have tried

reset BIOS

disabling other SATA controllers

changing the controller the drives are plugged into

changing the mode of the controllers my drives are plugged into

preloading drivers

checking connectivity

1 drive at a time

what else is there to do?

This happened to someone I know, don't know if they ever sorted it out though because I haven't seen them for ages. Anyway a couple of suggestions.

1.Try booting with a Linux live CD Ubuntu/Mint should do. Once you are on the Linux desktop try running the Windows 7 DVD and running the setup.

2.Install XP on a 4gb partition if you have a copy of XP and try the same as I said with Linux and then once you have installed 7 format the XP partition.

dont have a live CD so i will try the XP one when i get home from college

How did folding break it? what has it done as all seems fine with my setup - no SSD in mine though, is that what is causing it?

my OC wasnt folding stable so i crashed my windows one to many times and it couldnt recover

just finished fixing it

took a while to get XP to install on my HDD just kept creating partions

and saying i have 800GB of free space on my 500GB hard drive :/

Hmm interesting - did you report the error to MS I wonder if the y have it as a known issue ?

Just been looking on MS support, it seems that if you click on the reinstall win 7 link it takes you to another link that says exactly the same but offers no advice

they then have the cheek to ask if it was helpful ha ha ha NOT!!!
