Ok. Where to start.

I can't get as far as the bios and very rairly the system turns the monitor on.

It hangs a a Q-code then turns off before bios even loads.

Your now going to ask what q-code. Well depends how it feels. Common codes are. 6o 62 4f 78 71 oo

But could be anything. Also hardware problem leds hang on differnt parts again quite random.

I have tested used and tested again and again using a corsair gs7oo and a antec 85o psu. Both run my other pc's fine

Also ram tested in another system so its good. Also done every combo of raam in slots on this.

Tested using 3 diffent gfx cards. Gtx57o. 88oogs and a 577o.

Tested in and out of case for earthing issues etc etc.

Used 2x cpu cooler. Stock and d14.

I have no way to test cpu but it has been re-seated andchecked for bent pins.

Any ideas or would we its dead/faulty?

Cheers friends.

If you havent noticed, some rams is only supported with one ram installed. And some other fast rams isnt supported at all.

Asus P8P67 Deluxe

i7 2600k

Mushkin Blackline 8gb 7-7-7-24 (1.5v 1600mhz)

EVGA GTX570

corsair GS700 psu.

also tested with

corsair xms3 1333 4gb

Antec 850 psu

XFX 8800GS

1gb ddr3 value ram. unsure of make or speeds of it tho

tested all ram in various sockets and combos etc.

doesnt always hang on ram other times its cpu or gpu

yes ive tried both of them.

memOK restarts system a few times with the led getting faster each time then shutsdown comleatly. i guess thats normal as its testing the ram etc but doesnt help when i reboot

used clear cmos and also took the battery out and unplugged for a while to to double check that its cleared.

Do you have any USB devices plugged in? when i first got my P8P67 it would not boot with any USB devices plugged in. Also I mentioned in your other thread if you had tried a different HDD seen as you have tried everything else, it looks like it's the motherboard that is faulty.

What is status of the 4 POST State leds? These are the 4 leds next to the CPU, RAM, GPU & HDD. If any of those leds are lit up red when the board posts its meant to indicate a problem in that area. See page 2-19 of your manual.

i did have a usb keyboard and mouse plugged in but changed to a ps/2 and still the same also tried it with 2 hdd's. cheers for the idea though sieb. didnt think about usb's

the led will stay solid on one of the leds (normally vga or ram)but changes each time as does the q.code thing. very rare it gets as far as looking for a boot device and that stays on if it does.

still unable to get into bios to change anything or at least have a look if its detecting anything wrong

I'd say it's either the motherboard or CPU, if you have tried two lots of different hardware and you are getting the same problem with both then it can't be the hardware unless it's the CPU. Only way to be sure would be to try the CPU in another motherboard and see if it is working and if it is it must be the motherboard.

I would remove the battery and let it clear the cmos for a while, then try it with just 1 stick of the value ram and a gpu to try and get in the BIOS. If you get into it make sure its the latest then set it up for your 8gb and then stick them in.

Other than that you need a CPU to test really but it does sound like its the CPU to me:(

Do you happen to know what bios version is loaded on it? Previous to v.1502, the board could hang. It would boot some times, it might not post, etc. I had the same issue with my board. The one I have now is actually a RMA. My previous one had the new bios that was supposed to fix it, but it wasn't working. New board, new bios, works fine.

So, try resetting cmos by unplugging the power to the PSU, remove cmos battery and hold power button for 5 seconds. Reverse all steps and see if it posts. If not, I'd get a hold of Asus and get a RMA.

Managed to get it all up and running. Ran perfect for a week or so No freezing several restarts for updates. Even did a miled OC. Just got my confedence back in the board.

Bios was updated to 17O2 iirc. Turned it off for a week while I was away to come back and be back at square one.

Told store about it and they have given me a RMA code so I think I'm going to send it in.
