can't decide

looking at replacing my 4 year old rig, the problem it I can't decide what I5 CPU to go with sandy bridge 2550K or ivy bridge 3570k. I will be wanting to over clock the CPU and have heard that the ivy bridge to heat up a lot when been over clocked.

Also the mother board I am looking at is the Asrock Z77 extreme 6 never had a Asrock board in the past and wanting to know what people think of them. I am looking at going for a gold, silver and black colour scheme.

The primary use will be gaming I currently have a 560TI and will be looking at getting another on of ebay and SLIing them.

Personally i'd go for the i5 3570k over the 2550k.

Asrock have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Have a look at the z77 extreme4 if you're not going for a full fat upgrade as you'll save some money with negligible performance defecit.

i would get the 3770k mate

aslong as you dont really push the OC it will be about the same temps as ivy bridge

never heard much about asrock so i would stick with either asus, gigabyte or msi

had Asus MB for the last 4 years and never had a problem, relay want another but they are all blue same with MSI and Gigabyte and I relay don't want a blue motherboard. Can't justify spending more for the sabertooth. so I may just risk it and go for the Asrock Z77 extreme 4.

Keep in mind that the Ivy Bridge CPU will be a little faster then a Sandy Bridge CPU with the same clockspeed. So if you clock your IB to 4.0Ghz it will be faster then a SB with 4.0Ghz.

welcome to the forum,

from tom's video, if you keep the vcore voltage respectable you wont have any

issues with overheating. the asrock board will be fine.

sell your 560 and use the newer platform 600 series. the 560 sli will look cool, but

the 670 will function better, less headache in performance and temperature. ohh

and energy usage will be conciderably less. and maybe by then, the 660 will

be a candidate.

Why should he get a 3770k when He can get a 3570k that will performs the same and is a lot cheaper, also just because you haven't heard of Asrock doesn't mean that he should not go with it, The Asrock z77 boards happen to be very good

No point going for the 2550k since you are overclocking - the 2500k is the same thing and will clock just as well.

SB vs IB is a close call - they are both very good. IB will run more efficiently and faster per clock and cooler up until about 4.7-4.8ghz when it goes nuts. I tend to suggest IB because it is more energy efficient, has a better memory controller (if you fill the 4 slots) and has pcie3 (better if you have more than 1 gpu). It is very close.

Asrock have been getting a better and better reputation and I believe that the the z77 boards are absolutely fine.
