cant access other computers

on my dads computer i cant access his shared files it says the network path was not found and when i do it on his computer as well it has the same effect even tho its computer im trying to access but all the other computer on the network work fine this isnt a major issue but what could be the problem

U probably have the wrong network name entered on one of the computers...

network paths go like this...

\\*NAME OF COMPUTER*\*NAME OF SHARED FOLDER OR DRIVE*

for example in my case..

\\DOWNSTAIRS\UTILITIES

also try going into my network places, viewing workgroup computers and checking that they are visible on the network.

yeah they are visable on the network, i was able to use it a few days ago to backup stuff before i reformated but now i cant access it to get it all back

I had the same experience quite long time ago. What I did was to run the network setup wizard for all computers in the same workgroup. Restart and try to ping every computer in ur workgroup. If the ping timeout, just try to change workgroup or the computer itself.

If you can ping your dad's machine then you have a firewall issue. Do as enbid says first.
