Calls from 'Windows OS Support'

As far as I know, we don't have anything over here for that. The nearest I can think of is being put on 'Ex-Directory', where you're taken out of the Yellow Pages and the phonebooks, etc.
However, as companies rely less and less on such services, and instead use internet marketing companies to get your information, cold callers seem to be on the rise :(

We do have similar things - if you call your provider or BT - you can get certain numbers blocked. You can also pay BT for their service which adds all the ones they know of to the list and blocks them all.
Was always just too much effort for me to do that though

If the calls come from the same number, record them, sew them, and earn loads of money. One thing for sure - they'll never call you again. And if they do, you'll just earn more.

Not living at home any more and don't have a landline so no.

Have got 2 different spam calls on my mobile today though - both automated services though...

I have had a few of these and I try and keep them on the phone for as long as possible. The last one I had was from Windows Support Team, which I replied I have a Linux OS. He just ignored me and told me that they received a complaint from my ISP and that I was sending strange packets to their DHCP server.

Tickle me pink. He then wanted me to run from the command line iexplorer and some tinyurl. Told him I had done it and ask me what was on the screen. I told him, you tell me. Which he did, anyway to cut a long story short he got his boss on the phone and I told him I cancelled the popup box as per his colleagues instructions. He then hung up on me.

One day I am going to setup a VM desktop and have a naughty picture as the desktop and see what happens.

Would love to do this:

I know this post is a wee bit old now but for future ref.
This company ignores telephone exdirectory. They've done it to to many times now to me and my family.

I can only guess that they have an illegally obtained list or that there just trying numbers at random.

We do have a organisation like the over here, its called called the telephone preference services (TPS) and you can register on there site.

I got really pissed off and reported them to the police when they tried to scam my 81 year old grandmother who very nearly fell for it. They were using a local telephone number aswell! She dosent even have a internet connection! Her laptop is nothing more than a expensive typewriter!

Last time I got one of these calls and they tried telling me "your windows is corrupted" I had some fun with them...

it's "your windows ARE corrupted" and mine look absolutely fine thankyou, NO you cannot reinstall them for me, the nice man from Piper Windows only installed them last week and there is nothing wrong with them!

"But look sir, we are from Microsoft and you have to let us do this"

Listen mate, I just checked on google and there ISN'T a glazing company called "microsoft", only some silly software company and I fail to see how that will help with my double glazing so if you don't mind, I am going to hang up now as I have some bodies to bury in the garden before anyone sees them!

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

;)
