Hi fellas I'm building a new 1156 build for my brother and am not to familiar with the i5 CPU's. I was thinking of getting a Core i5-655K Clarkdale 3.2GHz. And just overclocking the heck out of it. My Brother is a Photographer so hes going to be doing a lot of photo rendering. I wanted him to go with a 1366 platform but its a little out of his price range. I'm thinking a 1156 I5 or I7 will do him well. What do you all think? Any suggestion would be helpful, Thanks in advance.

the 655k is pants tbh they dont like BCLK. So either get a 760 or once you got beyond that you can get an i7 950 for £225 and a cheap baord like the Gigabyte UD3 X58 for £150.

Really isnt worth messing about with the Kseries chips they are pretty crap.

Well Tom i just watched your Intel i5 760 Quad Core Review and I have to say it looks like a great little overclocker. And it seems its just what we need for my brothers build. Thank you for taking the time.

Also i have a board Ive picked out what you guys think?

You should choose MOBO with ATX PSU support instead of mATX, DDR3 support is alright. If he is a photographer he will use a lot USB ports, so i recommend to buy mobo with USB 3.0 ports (they are multiple times faster than 2.0 ports) And by the way dimensions of motherboard (mobo) are 9.6" x 8.27" so you should be carefull to choose (or you have one?) case. Standart dimensions of motherboard are 12.0" x 9.6". Smaller case - less cooling

What's his budget?

Here is a good start.

With a budget system for photographer or a photoshop(cs5) user. I would look into getting a nvidia gpu. This might be out of his budget a bit. But i myself am a heavy photoshop user and there times that i hit over 2GB of ram usage. I later moved on to a GTX 470 and my ram usage was low and so it ran much faster due to everything be rendered in realtime on my GPU

I personally would go with a med end computer with a High end GPU.

Anything cs5 related will need a ton of ram 6 is imo barely cutting it. But if you brother isn't a 'professional' photoshopper 4GB should be plenty.

If he isn't even going to be using adobe products. Then i would look into processor 2.8ghz range(a i5 750 isn't a bad proccy for the job, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215), I would avoid overclocking, but if he/you must then go for it. Nothing wrong with it. Just its a long process to make sure it stable. Having a stable computer is key when doing any sort of rendering. In most cases it could act as a stabilizer test. It works your computer hard and for long hours.

Thanks a lot guys i got some great info and advice. I will let you all know how the build turns out and a final parts list again thanks.
