Build My Pc

Hey guys I'm new to these forums, but I'm not new to computers :) ....

I've decided to go ahead and build a PC that can be overclocked to the tits. This computer will be for me next year, and I'll mostly be gaming as well video editing.

I'm not a fanboy by any means, an would like your input on a great overclocking beast for me to consider building.. I have an idea in mind that I shall share.

GPU: ATI 7970
HD: SSD258gb+HDD 1TB
PROC: i7 3770k
MOBO: (unknown)
PSU: 750W

Any advice on a great machine that "YOU" would build that has overclocking potential please don't hesitate to give me your specs. I really want it to be water cooled no doubt, and it has to be VERY quiet even on full load! Your advice truly will help me decide on what to build, and give me a good explanation why it is you chose those specs. This computers got to be "HIGH END" as well last me for a good few years before I'm forced to upgrade again. Thank You!

welcome to the forums,
this is so much an open-ended question and not really any one good answer..

most of the unknown needs more information..
what vid software? how much (in pecentage of usage) time using it as VE PC?
overclocking potential? all K-models overclock.. but depends on why the overclock
is needed.. some overclocking is good for 1-25 frames per second better. some
games could care less on the overclock..

high-end doesnt mean it'll last for a few years. technology moves slow and then
very quick.. and poof, it isnt supported any longer after 2-years..

Welcome here dude :) you won't require 750W for a non sli / crossfire system. For the mainboard go definitly for a Z77 (mayby Maximus V?). For the SSD I would use the Samsung 830 or 840 PRO.

Did you thought about the case already?

Internal or external radiator/s?

gpu: ati 7970
hdd: 1tb wd green
ssd: 256gb samsung 830
cpu: i7 3770k
ram: 8gb corsair vengeance 2133
board: msi z77 mpower
psu: corsair ax650

So whats the budget?

Off the top of my head I would say

3770k
MSI Z77A GD65 or MPower
2TB Western Digital Green
256GB Crucial M4
8GB or maybe16GB Corsair Vengeance 1866mhz
Corsair AX650

Because its just badass! Its getting rave reviews all the places its been reviewed and MSI really seems to be stepping its game up lately and their motherboards are really very good. Im an Asus fanboy but if I were building an Intel rig right now, 99% chance the M Power would be the one Id choose. Bullet proof build quality, great BIOS, great looking and reasonably priced.

Ya i checked it out, it looks dope!... This build looks sick, one thing... What kind of ram should I get for this setup?

As long as its a quality brand like Corsair or G Skill or the like, itll be fine. Nothing over 1.5 for Ivy Bridge though but other than that you should be fine. Double check the motherboard's website as itll have a list of approved RAM so you can be sure. Im personally a Corsair Vengeance kinda guy.

If you have the money, mayby go for 16 gigs, the memory prices are very low atm. (reminds the time, when a 4 gb kit was around 120 bucks ..)

Is there an overall benefit of having a 16 gb of ram? I'm running on 8 gb and it seems to be more then enough. As well after looking at a few reviews I'm leaning towards the ati 7970 OC edition. By the time i get this computer built next year, it will be a lot cheaper or who knows the 8000 edition could come out.

Heres another situation I have came across and that is the case! I've been eyeing down this case http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=3037 .....but my issue is that the M-Power mother board only supports 1 internal usb 3.0 and 3 usb 2.0 ..that case has 4 and 2...so it's very annoying for me to have a case that doesn't have working usb ports... any ideas on a case that supports the proper amount of usb connectors for the M-Power that supports water cooling with a lot of room?

The mobo will support all of the USB ports on the case. Each internal connector splits into 2 external USB ports.

Oh, so one internal 3.0 usb splits to 2 internals for the front of the case?? I didn't know that, very convenient thank you.
